Hi, I have personally owned the RX100M1 and the RX100M3 before, so I'm pretty knowledgeable of the RX100 series.
I have since sold both cameras because the M3 was to replace the M1, then I sold the M3 after I used it for a shoot.
Just last week, I purchased a mint condition RX100M1, mainly because of the image quality being satisfactory for me. The extra features are nice from the M3, but it was 500-800 more
Anyway, I live in Australia, here is a PAL region. Local stock is 50i. The seller on eBay who I bought it from (also from Australia) says he sourced his model from overseas and I asked him about the sticker on the bottom. Here is what he told me:
- The sticker on the bottom says 60i
- The camera "seems" like it is a Japanese model from the box
- The menus have English in them
From this information, I know that local Japanese RX100 models are 60i, but don't come in English. I assumed he got confused between Japanese and the other Asian languages, so if it comes in English is 60i and has Asian language on the box, then it must be from somewhere like Taiwan or Korea.
Today I received the package and here is what I observed:
- Box is completely in Japanese
- Camera sticker on bottom says 60i
- Camera serial matches the box
However the video settings allows for is only for 50i video modes. As you might or might not know, RX100M1 cannot change PAL/NTSC for PAL models. Only RX100M2 models and newer can.
So my question is, what kind of region of camera is this? I know in Japan, you can buy the English model for a price premium over the local model, but surely if it says 60i, it should be able to shoot in 60i? Or do all Japanese models regardless of local and export stock say 60i?
