Divorcing 109 for another beauty!...

Louis,

I am so glad that you are happy with your new Leia T. Nice pictures with the credit due to the photographer rather than the equipment as usual.

Strangely I did not immediately gel with my D-Lux 109 but now that I have been using it for the past 9 months I am really beginning to like it. Fortunately I have had had no problems with it. You must have been very unfortunate to get three duff cameras in a row. I hope you have many years of trouble free shooting with the T.

Kind regards,

I'm thrilled that you got the focus aid working...although I'm not sure why my recommendations didn't work, when Robert's did. ;)

One thing about the shimmering effect of objects when they are in focus under magnification: Setting the camera for "High Contrast " monochrome jpegs enhances the effect quite a bit. Sometimes lighting conditions are such that the shimmer isn't readily seen, but can be with this setting.

Onward and upward now, for you!

After a series of a very bad luck with 3 different 109s in a row that lasted months, I totally lost patience and trust in D-Lux! And,
Best wishes, Louis. .... and be sweet and patient with T :-)

Eduardo
Oh yes, my friend; very patient and loving, indeed!.... ;-)

As, always,

Well Louis, you really came out with a big one! Very happy that you have joined the T party. The T is a really good machine, quirky at times but very capable of great images. I really look forward to see your images going forward. A wide angle combined with zone focus is a fast street cam, i'm sure Nikon have a 20mm somewhere in their lineup. Enjoy the ride. :-) . Tony.
Thanks so much, dear Tony. You are, indeed, one of the causes I got this camera; and, so far, after passing through all that frustration about focusing, I must admit I love it! :-)

I am not really a wide angle shooter. But I still have a Nikkor 17-55mm zoom that I could use in case a wide angle is needed. But it is a big one. I may get the T 18-56mm in the future for traveling since it has a very reasonable size!

Thanks again, dear friend,

Louis

Could you please enlighten me on what sort of problems you experienced with the 109. I ask, because I was seriously considering one as my new briefcase camera to replace the old Sony RX100
Bene, please don't take me wrong, 109 is truly a fantastic camera. I very much enjoyed it during the limited time I could use it. It is not only pretty, but the features, functions, sensor and glass are really nice!... Surprisingly, it just didn't work for me by an incredible bad luck, I suppose!!!

Thousands of them are sold worldwide, but it was me who had that kind of luck!... I will really miss it!...

For more detail, please check this link. But please, don't forget I was extremely angry and frustrated when I wrote those lines!

Bene Placito, there is nothing wrong with the 109 and I can't comprehend how somebody is not satisfy with 3 of them. My main cameras are a Leica M and a Nikon D800E but I do have also a 109 and it is just wonderful. I use it a lot, it's always with me, I don't leave home without it. It followed me in several intercontinental trips and never had a glitch. The camera can take a lot of stress.

I like the camera a lot because it is very classic to use as manual camera or semi automatic with the front ring for the aperture, the time setting on the top and so is the wheel for under/over exposure. Colors, noise and DR are wonderful and as cherry on the cake it has a movie mode 4K second to none.

I have a Dlux 109 and get the same image size as my regular micro four thirds bodies. I don't know about the LX100. In 4:3 aspect ratio it's getting full sensor capture at shortest zoom.
SIGH

The sensor is the GH4 sensor.

The GH4 sensor is 16MP.

LX100/DL109 outputs RAWs at 24mm(equiv) in 4:3 at 4112 x 3088 pixels, that's 12.7MP.

At 3:2 it captures 4272 x 2856 RAWs, 12.2MP. This is due to the different ways the sensor output IS EFFING CROPPED according to the aspect ratio set.

Having it is obviously a start, but clearly it's not a guarantee that you aren't buying into it purely for the badge and will ascribe superpowers to the red dot.

Any other questions / arguments?

I'll leave you to your delusions. Red Dot über alles and all that.

You're still wrong. It not marketed to specified as a 16 meg sensor to begin with.

You have chosen the appropriate username.

Funny how often I get that from the oblivious and clearly ancient / hard-headed who don't realise the name came after lurking for a while.

I refer you to, actually, even the DPreview review of the LX100. It is a cropped micro 4/3rds sensor.

And I'll repeat slowly, one more time for your benefit, there is no such thing as a cropped micro fourthirds sensor.

No, not what you're intentionally misunderstanding as.

The very best to you with the "T"
thank you so much; very kind of you! :-)
I am enjoying the 109, it's a shame it didn't work for you.
i was also very much enjoying 109 before I started having those problems. It is truly a fantastic camera when it works and I hope it would work for you for a long time!... I honestly wish it did worked for me!

very best regards,

Congratulations - I gave my T away to my nephew. Yes, definitely some regrets, but he's a favorite of mine and he takes good pictures :-)

have fun.

Thank you very much, Vikas! :-)

I am not worried about you; you seem to have most of the cameras with the red dot, already! ;-)

Kind Regards,

PS: BTW, I love Singapore! Is "Peoples Park" still a hot place for shopping?

Another pro exceedingly recommended me to keep my camera in a freezer when I am not using it. One day, I forgot to do so; and therefore, I was wondering if that was the cause of all my troubles with 109!

Or simply, this camera was way too professional for a beginner like me!...

Thanks again for your time.

Dear Louis,

So sorry to hear of your trouble with the 109. As you may recall, I had problems with two of the Panasonic versions of that camera and gave up. Glad you are finding happiness with the T which "T"empted me as well, but I held out for the GM5 which I have been very happy with as a pocketable travel companion. I also have room in my pocket for its big brother, the GX8, for which I anxiously await. My 47 year old Leica lenses are no longer gathering dust either as I forked for a used M9 after selling ALL of Canon gear in one fell swoop to a photo newbie who I hope is happily shooting away as he builds up his upper body strength. Maybe I will settle down now and actually take some pictures with all this fine hard & glass ware and see what happens.

As always, your photos awe and inspire.

Best wishes for success with the new "T"emptress!

Bill
