I can't get tethering to work with the 5Ds. AFAICT neither Lightroom nor Capture One support it yet. But I also can't get it to work with DPP4. See my thread here:

Has anyone got it to work?

Both the 5DS and R tether with Lightroom 6 using the latest Canon EOS Utility. Be sure and download the latest EOS Utility and you will have no problem. Consider you will find the files to be a challenge for a less than optimum computer.

As per my forum thread on Canon's forum, I can't get EOS Utility to do anything. Did you have to do anything special? I've never used it before for any other camera so don't even know how it's supposed to behave.

On Mac OS X it just hangs and won't open any window, on Windows 7 it can open a window but never detects my camera.

Can you post some details of how it works for you?

Also, what do you mean by "tether with Lightroom 6 using the latest Canon EOS Utility"? Does Lightroom actually use EOS Utility to implement its internal tether function, or are you talking about using a watched folder?

Lightroom does not use EOS Utility in it's native tether. You have limited functionality with LR tether, but it does allow you to shoot directly into Lightroom. Go to File/Tether Capture/Start Tether Capture. LR will look for cameras attached to the computer and give you a list if more than one is. Select the 5Ds. A dialogue box will ask questions concerning where you want to send the images, what you would like to name them etc. Be sure to have a memory card in the camera. For some reason, LR tether will not work without one. This should at least get you connected. I too have had lots of problems getting EOS Utility to work on some machines. It seems to be very sensitive to the OS particularly on Macs. Canon has not always included their latest software with new cameras. I would, if you haven't already, done a Canon site search for 5Ds software and download whatever is on the site.

EOS Utility is a great piece of software when it works. We use it to shoot directly into LR using the LR function of Importing from a "Watched Folder".

Are you writing this from direct personal experience with a 5Ds? Because when I try there are no cameras in the list. I haven't been able to find any documentation on Adobe's website claiming 5Ds tether support (only RAW files support). I'm using LR 6.2.

I've tried with both the CD version and latest version from the website. Doesn't work. My hardware seems fine because Mac OS X/ Windows both detect the camera bringing up their own generic file importers.

I had no problem getting it to work with a desktop and the two laptops I tried in DPP4. LR6 though was a fail. It oscillated between no camera detected and detecting the 5DS. Couldn't do anything with it.

Note: the above was Win 7 and 8.1, not Macs.

Tethering is working without any problems with my 5dsr and a windows 7 computer. Are you using utility3?

No I do not own a 5Ds but rather am tethering both 5D MIII and MII's. If you get the tether connection oscillating between your camera and no camera, we have found closing EOS Utility and attempting a LR tether will allow you to connect. However, we are running LR 5.7 and not LR 6. This might be the real issue. I know LR 5.7 doesn't support the 5Ds and I have no idea if LR 6.1 does. Based on Adobe's info, it should.

If when you turn on your 5Ds connected to your computer, EOS Utility may start up. If it does, quit out of it before attempting to tether through LR 6.1. This might do it.

Another possible solution with a lot more features is Helicon Remote. Even though they do not list the 5Ds as a supported camera, they are usually on top of the latest cameras. Here is their link:

http://www.heliconsoft.com/supported-cameras/ Contact them as to when or if they are going to support the 5Ds. My experience with this software is extensive and it is much better than EOS Utility.

Hope this helps.

What info did you see that makes you think it should? https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/tethered-camera-support-lightroom-4.html does not list the 5Ds. It does list other recent cameras.

Anyway, I've gotten it to work on my wife's Surface Pro (Windows 8.1), so at least I know there's nothing wrong with the camera. But I really need it to work on my MacBook Pro, which is what I actually use in studios. The crashing I can put down to me using OS X 10.11 instead of 10.10. I tried to get it working in a Parallels VM running 10.10, and while the software doesn't crash, it still doesn't detect the camera. But that could be a Parallels issue.

Sigh. I'm so stuck.

Yes, Utility 3. Canon support's first suggestion was to reinstall and reboot and I've done that to no avail.

The Adobe link is for LR 3,4,and 5. Only LR 6 and CC support the Canon 5Ds, or at least that is implied by the recent update to both LR 6 and ACR. Have you updated both?

It's for 6 as well. It specifies v6 as the minimum required for some of the cameras it lists as supported.

Recent updates are regarding 5Ds RAW file format support, not tethering. In any case, I'm using the latest version of everything.

I never did get it working with Windows 7, but it seems that EOS Utility 3 is incompatible with Mac OS X 10.11. I installed 10.10 to an external drive and was able to get it to work from there.

Solution
I been able to get it to work with no issues on EOS Utility and DDP4. Lightroom 6 it cycles on and off. Capture one gives an camera error.
