No Henrys Show in Toronto in 2015?

Henry's is too often out of stock on many items and Vistek never has the best prices, In Toronto I find that it's Downtown Camera for it's great staff and service.

It's also distributors. Some big brands have problems finding a distributor.

Canon and Nikon are having problems. Their arrogance doesn't help.

Photo retailing is a low margin business. A quote from a recent conversation with a big name company: "We need to convince people to take pictures with a camera."

That's strange. Toasters and Microwave ovens and wheelbarrows are everywhere. Camera gear is not distributed well?

I asked Nikon how to repair a camera, and they basically said, 'tough luck'.

What? NO more hi-def movies with stereo sound? Stupid picture modes? ;-)

Unfortunately you are right. But lucky to me is that my friend sent his recording to me online and I save it on my HDD. I can watch the entire show anytime I like.

Okay, I've got to know - when was the last time you saw a wheelbarrow? Had to ask.

Some of these companies are small, so they don't have a local rep. They go with a local distributor who may or may not perform as they wish. I've been told there are not a lot to choose from. Photo retailing has never been a big market, its never been mainstream.

I think what some posters on dpreview here have said is true. Digital photography attracted a lot of people to photography, until they woke up and realized they weren't really into it.

I had a similar experience with Canon. It's been a lot worse with Nikon, however.

Ha-ha.

Not even drone photography is going to save this major slump in photography.

The Home Depot nearest my home (suburb north of NYC) had dozens on display in their parking lot recently.

I saw MY wheelbarrow last time I looked out my window...there is is now!

And no, I don't live on a farm...I live in the centre of Toronto!

What do you use it for, Mike-centre-of-TO?

I like Downtown camera people but the return policy is better at Henry's --
Berghof G.C.
I had a negative experience with Henry's return policy. They have imposed a limit on the value of items which they will allow to be returned ($1499) and require items to be in unopened boxes. This makes it impossible to order from the web site since you have no opportunity to evaluate a product to decide if it meets your needs. And this restriction doesn't show up on the main website page or order form - it is buried in the 'return policy' section which is only accessible through the web page footer.

The explanation is that some people were buying expensive items (e.g Nikon D750 with lenses), using them to shoot 2,000 images at a wedding and then returning the items for a refund. That is inappropriate and I understand their concern. But, they should base decisions on returns on the amount of usage that an item has received, not on an arbitrary price.

Exactly,The only reason any company should accept a return is if the product is defective, not because someone wants to try it out for free. If you want to go this route go use Amazon but don't complain about the fact that you may receive a camera that someone else did this with before they shipped it to you.
