Canon 70D Set button not completely horizontal

Hi folks - a new Canon 70D owner here, and so far so good as I make my way around.

I noticed that the SET button is slightly not straight horizontal at 180 deg (a tiny bit crooked, and maybe .5 deg off). I notice this as well on some pictures online. I'm assuming that this is normal???

So for all other 70D owners out there, have a look - it's not as noticable but enough if you 'stare' at it.

Thanks!!

Some are missing the point here. If you bought a new car that had a dent on the door right off the lot would you say that who cares. .....it drives well.

My point is no matter how small this issue might seem, is the fact that I paid over a grand for a piece of equipment that should be perfect. The fact that this button is off, to me shows bad QA and the reality is is that we should be a bit concerned because who knows what other things can be wrong with our cameras if Canon can't get a button straight.
Sorry but...that is neurotic. It does not affect the operation of the camera at all, nor the IQ of the image. If you're the kind of person that's going to over-analyze every detail like that, you'll never be happy with a camera.

If it was a dent that I could only see after staring at a small section for several minutes, yes I would ignore it.

+1

LOL. The emblem on my 4 wheel hubs don't always line up horizontally either! Dang.

It is more serious than you think. The button text is fine, but the rest of the camera is misaligned by about 0.5 dgrees. You'll have to straighten all your photos.

You are absolutely right. Send the camera right back to Canon service, and make sure they straighten out that set button. Why should you have to live with something like that?

Or, stop staring at the set button, look through the VF and start taking some photos with the camera. :-)

When I first got my 40D way back when, its set button could freely spin in circles. I also posted a question here to find out if that was normal or if it was about to fall off. It never did, but I still have my eye on it...

Why click on it and read it?
I really wish I knew why . . . . I don't care about the SET button, but my compulsive disorder means I have to finish this thread . . . .

I'm a completeist too. It's pure masochism when one of the usual suspects is involved, as in this thread.

I really wish the "Ignore" function would completely hide blocked people's posts, rather than just graying out the line.

You didn't pay for perfect. You paid for an engineered implementation and that means that things have tolerance, not perfection. A tilt of 0.5 degree is slight, and since it doesn't impact operation in a negative manner, it is deemed within tolerance.

Post a picture. You said 0.5 degree. That's not much off level. I have seen brand new cars have manufacturing tolerances that are noticeable from one car to the next. Those are not the same as a dent in the finish.

When I first read this, I thought it was a goof, or a bit of humor. Apparently not.

Seriously, if this is all you have to worry about, thank your lucky stars. Spend more time learning and enjoying photography, and stop staring at your "set" button.

Kevin

I think I may be .05 deg off :/

no, should be within tolerances and operate according to specifications.

actually it kind of shows something else.

seriously .. how do you know it's off by a mere .5 degree anyways?

you'd have to get a perfectly level surface and carefully measure it out against the bottom of the camera.
