Unless I am mistaken, Phil has cleaned up this forum by removing all of those silly and offensive threads. Hopefully he has also removed some of the posters as well.

i like to read the real issues surrounding Canon Slr's and not about girlfriends, nudity or cats for that matter.

Well done the moderators!

Well, I for one am disappointed that my post about my girlfriends naked lesbian cat who had troubling focusing on some frozen hot dogs in Iraq was removed.

Some posting should never see the light of day.
But, to each is own, I guess.

If you think that what you are about to post might be objectional, then it may very well be objectional..

Common sense can go a long way... But then it is obvious that there is a huge range of cultural and differences in how people are raised.
But, the use of profanity is simply an expression of someones ignorance.
You may have a religious preferance and believe that your religion is right.
That does not give you the right to insult someone based on that belief.
I enjoy these forums for thier educational and technical information.

If I am lucky, I get information that I can use in every day life of photography.. Well, thats all I have to say on this topic.
Take Care and GOD Bless All..

--I agree. I was getting disgusted and discouraged at the lack of decorum and decency and consequent use of space for things other than photographic sharing. Thanks to all who worked on this.

Photography -- just another word for compromise

Where's the 'forum police' when you need them?
So many off-topic posts, yet they only complain about mine?
Nah, this couldn't be a personal vendetta.

My personal motto: why use words that half the people won't understand, anyway?

What good is a big vocabulary if nobody understands what you mean? Nada. It's wasted.

Case in point: use the word "redress" in a memo (not in a law firm) and see how many people think you mean to say "readdress".
"language is a poor enough means of communicating, we may as well
use all the words we have"

OH thank you sooooo much Phil.

You people are so pathetic. Let's run down this whole thing.

The ones that were so against the so called "porn/nude filth" saying that it was taking up so much of the forum space are the same ones that are taking up more space by posting this trash of thanking Phil. Where is the photographic content in your post Sierra? This thread isn't silly ???? Hmmm do I smell a hypocrite ??? OH YAH BABY I DO !!!!

I know, lets post 50,000 "more" cat pictures that are no better than snapshots. Why would we want to see someone's attempt at taking a tastefull classy picture of a woman ?? Hmmm let me see, nah let's post MORE cat pictures. That's what everyone wants to see. BRING ON THE CAT PICTURES!!!!

It's narrow minded thinking like you people that have tried and succeeded in closing down photo exhibits across the county because it wasn't what YOU deemed acceptable. Who the hell are you?? Some of the best talented photographers in history took nude/glamore shots. Lets burn the pictures.

Let's get rid of them gay pride pics too. Can't have any photojournalism either because someone might cry and say they don't like it. This is the freaking internet people, free of speech or so I thought.

Every picture that I have seen here that was of "questionable" content always had a waring in the header. I guess that's not enough for some people. Instead of just not clicking on it you have to go and wine to Phil sniff sniff . Give me a break.

I guess what I'm saying is, whether it's a gay pride march, nude/glamore, sunsets, or a freaking cat picture, it is all PHOTOGRAPHY and some people are proud of the pictures that they have taken and want to share them with others and tell them how they made the pics. Stop forcing YOUR beliefs and morals on me and others in this forum.

'nuff said.

Dear Joe,

I have not forced my views on anybody, neither do I have any particular ones. I am open minded and like all decent pics. However in saying decent, i mean a photograph that is at least worthy of a Canon SLR. There have been a lot of pics (embedded) which are terrible snapshots and should not been shown. Many of the cat and people photos have been like this. A six year old could do better with a disposable camera. I am against porn, soft or hard beening publically available. If you need to see it that's fine with me, but how about letting your nearest relatives know what you are doing?

I have not written to Phil or anybody else on this matter.

On the subject of written English, we should avoid the use of slang, such as you use. There are many members of this forum who do not use English as their native tounge. It would be helpfull to those members if you try to stick to Queens English.

If you read above the rules of the forum, which you and others agreed to stick to when you signed up, you will see the rules governing Glamour, nude voyeuristic etc.. All Phil's moderators are doing is to enforce these guidelines. Please note that Flame is include in these rules, your post looks a lot like flame to me.

I unapologetically enjoy taking pictures of my wife and don't mind showing them. So shoot me...

For the record, my post was completely within the currently stated posting rules (I even went beyond those requirements by posting a warning).

Yeah we've got a website, big deal. There's nothing there that you wouldn't see in a lingerie catalog.

I certainly wouldn't categorize anything I saw in the now deleted thread as 'porn' but people have been arguing about that topic for decades at least. So I'm not going to convince anyone otherwise who is predisposed to consider it as such.

Believe it or not, for the time being the U.S. remains a 'burqah optional zone'.

Apparently that doesn't extend to dpreview, but whatever....it's Phil's server, Phil's rulez.

That's why I did start my own site.

If looking at pictures of attractive, confident women makes you think impure thoughts...well, it's probably good for you...chances are you could stand to loosen up a little.

Anyway I'll go back to shooting pictures and check back in from time to time as needed.

Fortunately for me dpreview isn't the 'must have' daily fix that it used to be.

But then again....who knows when I'll need the valuable insight provided in the Canon slr forum with apparently on-topic posts such as:
"Adam T passes the 20,000 message mark"
"B+H's dirty little secret..."
"New G% macs - "fastest pc"

....now I'm off to search for a good repository of cat pictures, the wilkerson's and flowers....

;)
