Seems a variation of symbols like ' appear in lieu of an apostrophe in DPR message notifications received through email......here's a sample:

Sorry to hear about the cancellation and I'm sure you'll have another opportunity but for now you most likely made the better choice.......it's an uncertain world anymore

Anybody else experience this or have an explanation? Another member and I have both received message notifications with these issues but are stumped if it's on DPR's end or not.

All of my email alerts have been arriving in this form for a couple of months now. Fortunately, the private text messages within the DPR site are okay and readable.

I've seen this phenomenon both in notifications as well as in the full messages both in dpreview as well as in some messages on another forum (not dpreview related) I frequent. It is annoying as well as very difficult to read these messages. I hope someone can shed light on the problem.

*For technical issues, please include as much detail about the problem as possible, including your browser/OS and the exact page where the issue occurred.*

this would help the developers.

Yes, the actual PMs are fine and unaffected, ....as you said it's just the notifications, even on the iPhone.......

Thx Marti,

I was hoping someone on the staff would pick up on this thread since it's the Site Feedback and Help forum.

Although I appreciate members' validations and concerns, it seems rather pointless discussing DPR web issues amongst ourselves on such a forum if they (DPR) don't get involved........

I'm using a pc with IE10 but seems the problem also affects Mac users......

What email app / browser / service are you using? Does it accept html formatted emails? Or is it designed for plain text only?

' is html for the ' character. At some point it the chain from DPR to you reading it, the ' gets translated to ' but not back. From your example, also looks like the original? & was translated to & (html for &), making it very hard to translate back to the ' character. These might be DPR, but they may be on your email viewer end, or your email service settings, or something else.

Thanks for the explanation Rob,

I'm using a pc with Windows7, IE10 and Windows live mail and will dbl check my settings, although the issue only appears associated with this site.......

I have the same problem, but ONLY on DPR messages, so it must be at DPR's end, no?

They have a tendency to have limited time resource so it may take a bit. They usually show up but can take some time.

Often other members and moderators here can resolve an issue faster as they have time, and have on many an occasion, seen it before and no the solution. If you only want help from paid staff...best to use the feedback link at the bottom of the page.

That extra info is very helpful. Good Luck

That's funny. I've been getting those same things over at Flickr for a few days now.
