The view you see on the LCD display on hte bck of the camera is a
video display of the pictures you have taken. This display comes
from the picture file in on the compact flash memory card.
The CCD (the part that collects the light to form the picture) is
hidden behind the shutter and a mirror before you push the shutter
release button. When you push the buton the mirror pops up out of
the way (this stops you from seeing anything in the view finder
while the picture is being taken) and then the shutter opens.
While the shutter is open the CCD collects the light for the
picture.
Is this possibly an answer to your question?

what about browsing through your pictures inside viewfinder ...
there is no way ... I mean I guess it would make sense that it's
totally separate ... it's just sucks cuase during the day it could
glare on viewfinder you know ... so I cant tell if it's overexposed
or good shot ...
You Can't preview a picture in the LCD, you can view it afterthe
image was taken.
In the viewfinder, you can see in real time what is going on but
can't see the final result thru the viewfinder before the image is
taken and captured by the CCD.
You could completely under or over expose and you will only know it
by viewing the result in the LCD in the back of the camera once it
has been processed after it was taken.
1) I dont understand situation with viewfinder/display....
How can I preview the images inside of viewfinder and
shoot looking at display? ... that's a mistery ...
2) I want to get extended warranty for D100 now.
I just got and I know I have a month for it, but I want to be sure
in my camera safety later on ... what kind of cheap plans can I get
and where? ...what brands ...
