How many of you made D10 1st Canon SLR?

I am curious. I have owned Canon SLRs since the first AE1s came out. My last 35mm SLR purchase was the EOS A2e before I went digital. I went ddigital with an Olympus C7XX series w/10x zoom.

I soon learned its limitations but love the portable darkroom (computer image processing). Anyway, Canon ownership and to a larger extent, Canon glass is why I bought the 10D body. I do miss the eye-controlled focusing of my A2e however!

This question is not aimed at those who make their living by photography, but I am wondering how many non Canon 35mm SLR owners purchased the Canon 10 D and why? My guess is that if you shot 35mm with Nikon, you purchased a D100 body.

My first SLR was a Nikon N90s (still have it).

When I bought the Nikon, I did so because I felt the Nikon 35mm SLR line was higher-quality than the Canon 35mm options. I switched to Canon when I went digital because I feel that the Canon digital SLR line is higher-quality than the Nikon digitals. I don't know if I would still consider the Nikon 35mm SLR line higher quality than the Canon 35mm SLR line; I haven't looked recently.

I think Nikon lost me when they designed the double-wide sensor for the D1x. A sensor that requires interpolating UP vertically and DOWN horizontally just bugs the heck out of me.

I obsoleted my Nikon-mount lenses and flash when I went Canon, but they were aging anyway, and not terribly high quality in the first place. My best glass on the Nikon was a $300 28-200 zoom lens, circa 1997.

I had a Canon EOS 600 35mm camera. Not top-notch Canon camera, but good enough for a teenager (at that time) wanting to learn photography.

Bought then a Point&Shoot, and wanted to go back to SLR photography. Canon was kind of obvious choice (D60 when I started looking into it), but I looked at the D100 also. The release of the 10D just facilitated by decision (good camera, good price).

but I decided not to sell my three month old D60 when the 10D came out but in answer to your question, I have used Canon for 23 years when I went from a Praktica EE3 to a Canon A1, what a leap I took on that day, I just couldn't believe how bright the viewfinder was compared to the Praktica. I have stuck with Canon as I like the feel and performance of the system and don't think I'd ever change.

I have a white lens (thanks to Tippex !)

And of coarse, a Canon S20, Minolta Dimage7 and Nikon Coolpix 5700 before going "all the way" with Canon 10D....

I love it!

I started with a Nikon F90x (about 5 or 6 years ago), as I felt it was the best camera in that price range (as well as their industry leading flash technology, more contrasty lenses, etc.). The equivalent Canon's seemed weird in operation (not intuitive). I liked the 'interface' of Nikon cameras (and still do). I'm about to purchase a 10D (when available). I've tested one for four days (loaned it). Image quality if fantastic, as is responsiveness. I still don't like the layout as much as the Nikon, but have resigned myself to getting used to it (doesn't seem to be a better alternative at the moment and I don't wish to wait any longer!). I especially dislike the symbols representing the metering modes on the 10D - downright stupid. But, there'll always be pro's and con's. If Nikon had an SLR with the benefits of the 10D, but with the more intuitive (fast to use controls) typical of Nikon, I'd grab it in a shot.

Anyway, I'm joining the ranks of Canon users (whether you like it or not!).

I am a nikon user and I switched to canon because of this new camera. Overall, I am impressed with the camera, however the auto white balance is not accurate under certain conditions. Also, I don't get a lot of the detail in my images that my friend gets with her D1x.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I switched from a Nikon N80 to the 10D. I have found the Canon much easier to use. It was not my first digital though as I also own a Canon S40.

I have, but then I own Minolta stuff so I am in the doodoos's anyway as far as digital is concerned.

The D10 is obviously designed as a price/competition breaking camera, so I joined in the action...

If I was a horse they'd shoot me......
10D/Minolta Dynax 7/ETRSI/5X4 & kodak Instamatic.

My first slr was a nikon f-100.
My cousin brought it, and a 800mm and 50 mm, back from viet nam.
It was an incredable gift for a 14 yr. old boy.

I shot pictures non stop for 10 years, and then due to an event I won't go into, stoped.
Why Canon?
They seem to be leading the pack in inovation.
Now if I could only figure out how to get the 600mm.......

Obsession is a terrible thing to waste

I jumped into the film SLR world about four years ago and bought a Minolta Maxxum 9, Minolta's "pro level" SLR. I had researched alot and loved the features of the Maxxum 9 compared to both Canon and Nikon. To me Minolta seemed like the oddball scrapper that just didn't get a fair shake despite putting out innovative products. Anyhow, I have been wanting to switch to digital for a while (I'm a computer geek too) but I did not want to loose the investment in quality glass I had put into the Minolta system. Recently it has become clear to me that Minolta is clueless and that waiting for them to get on the digital bandwagon is a lost cause. That, combined with the fact that the price/performance ratio has finally reached a point where I can afford to buy a camera that is on par (IMHO) with 35mm in terms of picture quality, meant it was time to take the plunge. I considered the D100 and 10D, but after reading the rave reviews on the 10D the choice was clear. I haven't regretted a moment of my decision! I can hardly explain (and probably don't have to as you are more than likely experiencing the same thing) the feeling of liberation this camera has given me. I shoot everything now, and I cannot imagine a better learning tool than the instant feedback of immediately seeing the result of subtle changes you make. I love it and don't know how I ever got by without my 10D!!!

Well i made htis my very first slr
i ahd a nikon cp 5700 before
the main reason was casue of the price and it was digital
so i could experiment with photography with a Real SLR
not a prosumer
frankly the 5700 was a great cam but slow as all hell
and i got me some nice lenses with the 10d not to mention acceries
slowly trying to pay it off
i just did a party for 200 plus the cost of prints
http://www.pt-studios.com/minky/
that is the link to teh shots any comments will be appreciated
most of those were shot using the sigma 15-30
quick question about teh sigma my manual focus ring doesnt work
am i doing soemthing wrong?

I had an AE-1 first and still have the A-1. I had rangefinder 35mms previous to that. My first DSLR was the D60 and now the 10D. I'm really having fun and spending money as if I had some. LOL.
