PART 2 - *** This Week Through YOUR m4/3 2014.10.18 *** PART 2

That's a nice relaxed pose; without looking like a posed picture.

Congratulations FPN, well deserved.

My favorites are first, second - for the impact of the 'full frontal' landscapes - and the fourth and last, because I love how those industrial sceneries are treated. All very rich. And powerful images.

Not sure how to critique flower pics but I certainly like the last two. Hopefully some of the flower / macro aficionadios will offer an opinion. But Orchids are certainly more interesting to me than many other plants.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice, any better?

As this thread is approaching the limit fairly quickly I'll do a group reply.

Thanks to you all for taking the time to comment. This is my youngest grandaughter who is visiting at the moment. She doesn't live in the UK so photo ops are not frequent. I chose this shot because of two things - firstly the expression on her face which is typically her and also because of the wonderful light streaming in the window and catching her face; when she turned to look at me the light did not catch her face. I quite like the profile shot though many of you have commented on it so I find that interesting too.

Thanks - I've got some ideas for how to do it differently at the next breakfast time opportunity.

The first is the standout - a wonderful shot. I see that Andrew beat me too it but I had a go too using PS Elements and the clone tool. I seem to remember that you have Elements?

The secret I picked up from one of Andrew's posts is to blow it up supersized when cloning - it makes it all much easier. I did this at 500%. It takes a bit of practice but once you've got the hang of it it's easy if tedious on something like this.

Quick and dirty but it gives you an idea.

The first and last for me Scott - both great.

Nice.

The first one stands out for me, Bob.

That's clever. But the last one leaves me speechless (and envious ;-)) I'm off to Flickr to Fave it!

Andrew and Yaelle,

I will put this image in the OMD & SLR talk Forum in a couple of days as I realize that the flickr image is just about 1200x900px. I will put up a jpg from the more or less original size, but it is great in a bigger size a promise you that.

Lou
Looks pretty good at small size Lou, but the original and enlarged view don't seem to be available, at least here. I have had this happen with a few other images on this site in recent weeks. I wanted to see what you managed to get at ISO 12800!

Andrew

Thanks, I appreciate the advice, any better?
Yes - much better. I think possibly a bit strong on the greens for my monitor now though. Maybe use the green saturation slider to wind it in a little? We'll soon have a masterpiece on our hands.

In case what I meant wasn't clear:

In LR, at the top of the BASIC block of tools there's "Color" and "Black & White". Click the latter, then go down to HSL/Color/B&W block and click on "B&W". You can either manipulate the color sliders
That is the part that I did.
, or click on the Target in the upper left of that block and click/drag on different areas of the image. Toy with making blue skies dark and dark greens bright, etc.
I forgot about that. I will experiment with doing that. I always do that with color. Don't know why I didn't with B&W. :-O
In something like Silver Efex, there's a color filter adjustment that helps alter the mix of color tonalities too. And like that. :)
Something that may be in my future. I read a lot of good things about that.

As I say, I'm not sure it looks better but by lifting highlights until they almost clip the image has been given more contrast and looks less "flat".
Thanks for the demo. Yours definitely looks brighter. Not sure if that is good, or not. Trying to decide. :-)

Part 3 is now being launched before Part 2 is finished.

Thanks. Those were just two that I threw together once back from the show and after dinner. It wasn't the biggest show ever and still the abundance of beauty was somewhat overwhelming and it was my first one. 3eCheval (how strange it is to call her that :D ) has already set up a Flickr album . It gives some idea of the variety and sometimes strangeness at display.

Thanks again and keep posting here. I look forward to see more of your photos.

Thanks Yaelle. You and Andrew both did a better job with cloning than me.

I do have PS Elements. It's version 10 and I believe version 13 was just released, so the auto blending functions may not be so good. It is still better than the current version of Lightroom at cloning, but I was lazy and didn't want to do anymore editing.

I'll give Elements a go now that I see how poorly I did the cloning.

Nice set Bob. The rural shots are very nice, but the night shots from the High Line interest me more.

A couple of those look like they're from the new extension. I thought it was only open during the day, but it looks like you got some night shots there. Was the entire new extension open at night?

Thanks

Mike

Darn! I'm a week too late! Our assignment for Friday nights' camera club was "Emulate the masters". I was supposed to bring a famous photograph and my attempt to do something similar. I didn't have an entry. Now I could have... This is a shot I haven't shared yet from my Glazier trip... :-)
