Hi, now I'm a little confused (and probably a bit ignorant too) but can someone explain about the electronic shutter.

Does the Black version have an electronic shutter as well as a mechanical one? is it in use or will a firmware update bring it to life? I see on the silver version the speeds on the top dial only go to 1/4000th the same as the Black version so presumably the higher "new" speeds are selected in the menu.

If the only difference between the two versions will be the body colour (after the proposed update is installed) will both versions be internally the same and perform the same?

It always amuses me a little though that with camera finishes what ever comes out first, black or silver, there is always a demand for the other colour hmm...

Anyway if anyone knows about, or can explain the electronic shutter situation please enlighten me - thanks in advance.

Sorry if this has already been covered and I've missed it!

Regards to all

Electronic shutter is not a hardware item beyond a capability of the sensor. I am pretty sure we will see this as a firmware update on the existing XT1.
Fuji confirmed this for a December 2014 update. See the linked article.

Thanks for reply, that's put my mind at rest - I actually prefer the black finish so it works well for me.

Regards.

See page 4 for an explanation of how they work.

Some of my astrophotography cameras use electronic shutters and some use mechanical shutters.

Yup...that is what the links I posted say.
Your answer was selected as THE answer to the question. Give yourself a pat on the back. Just be careful and don't hurt your arm.

I read somewhere that it is actually now a November release for the firmware update.
