Is that normal? On my new EOS-M + 22mm, whenever I open the battery door to take the memory card out and close it, the 22mm lens turns on momentarily then turns itself off, even if the camera is off.

Seems weird, I've never seen that happen with other cameras.

it does it if you jab the play button when its off too , hold the play button down and it turns the LCD on properly but just quickly press it and the camera cycles the lens whilst still off - weird

Some kind of system cycling happens when I re-close the battery door, too. And I don't have my fingers on any buttons. But the camera then returns immediately to off status, so I've decided not to worry about it.

Just put the SD card back in my EOS M with 22mm lens and nothing happened.

Nope, doesn't happen to me.. I have the 18-55mm.

I have another battery door related question.. What is the purpose of that slidey-switch thing on the battery door? Mine doesn't move/slide at all. The door opens no matter where I put the pressure on it. Is it supposed to lock it, or unlock it? Mine doesn't do anything...

I think it was just for grip? Give your thumb some traction and help people figure out how to open the door? Bothered me for a bit though, as well...

to the OP: when i close my battery door my 22mm also cycles. Not when opening it.

Mine does it.....

I think we would have to compare firmware, what shooting modes are set, continuous focus....etc.

I am too lazy to submit that info, and since the camera works great, I am going to go back taking pictures of my cat.

It's actually a hole. You can pull the tab out and you will see a hole--intended for an AC power supply if you plan to shoot long video or use it in the studio. Check out this adapter and you will see what I mean: http://www.amazon.com/Canon-AC-Adapter-Kit-ACK-E12/dp/B008NFWDUY/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

Yes I did mean to use all caps. I have been looking for a way to upgrade the battery on the EOS-M for extended use and you just gave me what I needed.

The EF-M 22 does it. The EF 40 does it. It's the design of the lenses.

Yup. It does it with all lenses that move electronically between ŕest position and shooting position. It cannot do it with lenses like the 18-55 that don't have such an electronic movement.

My M+22 combo does it also. I knew it even before I bought it. Searched for all 22mm f/2 lens reviews, and some of those mentioned this behavior. Perfectly fine. Seems it 1)finds its range/axis ends, 2) assures the barrel is all the way in the lens so you´ll not damage it that easy...

There is no problem with it. And it also happens when you remove and then mount the lens back again. Wonder how much does this drain your battery when off, but propably not so much...

Yes, silly. I suspect it is doing a 'sensor clean' or also discovering the lens attached but still very silly and annoying !!

If you place the M on the lens when you do this, it could actually potentially 'hurt' the lens, silly for Canon to do this - here me Canon - STUPID !!

But if you notice, it seems ALL/most Canon cams do 'something' when you insert the battery or if battery is IN when you close the battery/SD door, watch the light if you have one on cam !

SILLY !!
