Has anyone had trouble connecting an iPhone to this? I can't seem to find the 'Control with Smartphone' option to bring up the WiFi information. The menu has a way for the camera to connect to an access point... To download and buy apps??

New to Sony Play Memories and WiFi cams (aside from my GoPro) which is always easy to pair with the app.

I figured it out last night. You have to download the free app. It's not as good as Panasonic's but it works.

Okay. Got the app and it looks like the connection to be controlled via a smartphone is a little different than before. You have to initiate it from the applications section instead of the 'control from smartphone' as others have reported in the mk2. Ugh... The manual that was posted here also didn't have the connection supplemental items.

What is the app for iphone? Is there any instruction about how to control rx100 m3 by iphone? Thanks!!

what app? what /applications section/?

i've now tried about 6 pieces of sony desktop software and the only thing that works is the image transfer and with mac image capture and simply inserting the sd card, what's the freaking use of that?

i have two iphone apps, one called 'image' something and the other 'play memories'. neither of them works to connect to the camera or to my wifi network the camera is connected to.

there is no /off/ switch for the camera wifi that i can see.

there is only one single useful thing that works in this whole crappy sony universe and that is that it sees my dish hopper and i can show picture on my dish system. wow! i can airplay any image already and i hardly need that.

someone tell me in clear baby steps how i control my camera from my iphone. that's all i want. it took me 15 seconds to make this work on the gopro and i've been at it for 1-1/2 hour now on the sony. i've never seen a suckier piece of crap than this sony software unless it's their documentation which i'm being unfair for calling it sucky because there is no freaking documentation and what there is is wrong and missing steps.

well, well. look at this. when i buy nearly any device, no matter how newly released, i [ass]ume the docs are out of date so i got online and get all my docs. but i was at wits end so i checked the pkg included with the camera and there is a pamphlet purporting to show how to remotely connect. let's see if it works .... brb

.... and, it actually worked! the missing step was not knowing i had to run an app. why didn't the idiots put all the wifi stuff in one place? and how do i disconnect from my home network since there's nothing useful i can do on it?

/guy

Yup! And it's different than the other phones as well. Go figure. At least it works one way or another right?!

Sony changed how to set up the 'Control via Smartphone' feature for the RX100 III. For the RX100 III you do the following:

Press the 'Menu' button > Navigate to the tab with 4 squares > Select 'Application List' > Select the 'Smart Remote Embedded' app > Connect your smartphone to the RX100's wifi network > Open the PlayMemories App on your smartphone

Well, Podrick, THANK YOU SO MUCH. i had the same (*^&%^#-problem. How come sony et a lii do not make a goo manual? I don't understand that: laziness? OR..maybe..it's Sony's method of inviting people to connect..

anyway: THX.

Thank you!!! This worked like a charm. Definitely NOT intuitive. Here is a tip that helped me. After I connected the phone to camera, two tips. Don't try to take the picture on the camera anymore. Use only the smart phone. Otherwise they seem to get unpaired. Also, I put the camera into "2 second" self timer mode. (This only seems to be an option when the 2 devices are paired up). Then you can look down at the phone to push the button, and you have 2 seconds to put phone away and smile. (This for a group selfie situation) THANKS!
