I know it's probably impossible to say, but the new Canon looks pretty great. I do like how Sigma render colors/contrast and do need a complement to my 35mm lens. With what little is known, if it were you, the Canon 10-18 or Sigma 10-20 and, if Sigma, which one of the two Sigma 10-20's?

Thanks.

Weren't you gonna pick up an M?

I was, but just like being tuned-in to one camera.

You already know what I suggest so I won't suggest it, but here is a hint.

12 mm Canon 10-18
12 mm Canon 10-18

I had the Sigma 10-20 4.0-5.6 on a Nikon. The lens wasn't bad. It was sharp and had some CA. I recently bought the new Canon 10-18. I must say this lens is definitely better, it is very sharp and the CA is less than on the Sigma.

It has also less flare. The building quality is the same as the kit lens. The only difference is that the mount is of plastic. I had once a Nikon 18-105 that had also a plastic mount. After two years it broke and I had to repair this. I hope the quality on the Canon is better. Positive thing is that this lens has less weight.

The are no lens correction profiles for this lens yet. So you have to use LR.

For daily use I

Sigma 10-20 4.0-5.6 10mm
Sigma 10-20 4.0-5.6 10mm

think both lenses are good. I would say go for the lowest price. Be aware that Sigma delivers this lens with lens hood and a pouch.

I'd like to see some unbiased opinions on this too. I was considering the Sigma 10-20 f/4-5.6, but the Canon 10-18 looks very tempting at $130 less. It's not a lens that I would use often, so less spent is good if the IQ is there.

Thanks for the photos. I'm thinking that I'll go for the 10-18mm. At least we can expect Canon to release in camera CA and PI profiles for the Canon lens. The lighter weight is also an advantage for me. The lower cost also doesn't hurt.

I think I'm right behind you.

That's pretty damn nice.
Thanks. It is a delapidated, nearly abandoned Indochine-period building in Saigon. The image is also an antidote to the too prevalent straight-jacket orthodoxy parroted in these forums that an UW zoom lens is 1.) always for "landscape", 2. shot stopped down, and 3.) IS is unnecessary on UW.

And am now the proud owner of a Canon 10-18. I think I like it; a lot.

Nice - now that's is been at least 6months - do ou still like the Canon lense? I'm a very interested as I have the same delima, I love photography - and would love to be half way good at it. I'd like to focus on landscape, cityscapes and such - I currently have a canon t3i which I got a Costco a few years ago with the kit lenses. I can not afford a newer camera or afford to spend a lot - so I need to spend wisely - If I get the canon will i be happy? Thanks in advance

I've had both, the Sigma on a 40D and now the Canon on an SL1. The Sigma was decentered and had pretty bad distortion; I didn't keep it. I love the 10-18mm Canon: it's remarkably sharp, and the price can't be beat. I haven't had it that long, but I can't see any indication that it won't hold up under the kind of use I give it (which is not the hardest...).

It's a great lens (and I'm enormously picky). The only question, then, would be if UWA meets with your type of photography. I use it infrequently, but love the proper use of UWA and will likely increase its usage over time.

I'd say to go for it without reservation.

I did get the Canon 10-18mm in September. I used it for about a hundred photos during a short trip and the results are very good. I'm very happy with that lens on my SL1.

I got the canon 10-18 and am very happy with it .I do recommend using the lens hood. I paired mine with the 18-135 which gives me 10-135 and both lenses take the same filter size 67mm. I use mine on 70D so hope a firmware upgrade will come out for the 10-18 and the 55-250 lenses. Enjoy your new lens.

The lens profile for the 10-18 is in the latest version of EOS Utilities. Assume that's what you are looking for.

I don't have any input on the Sigma 10-20 but i am pretty happy with my 10-18.
One thing that bothers me a bit is that i find myself often cropping my photos a bit due to blurry edges, especially the left side, that might be user error though.

Some sample photos i've taken with it:
