Hi all

I'm the proud owner (as of yesterday) of the NX30. But but but I'm feeling depressed (yes that's an exaggeration and aka as frustration) that I can't find where (in the UK or Europe) to buy a spare battery and charger. How fffffing stupid can you be as a company to release a new camera without providing these things???? It just feels so amateur and further confirms why so many people believe Samsung are simply not serious about the camera part of their business. And if anymore evidence was needed about their lack of understanding about what we want you can't find and therefore order either item on the UK website. Jeze, pathetic plus

p.s. rant over but that felt good

p.p.s. the NX 30 looks great but my wife won't let me sleep with it

They are becoming available in various markets. Takes some time for them to trickle out.

The camera can be used while being charged via USB (unlike any other interchangeable lens camera I know about), so there are alternatives if you can't wait for the replacements.

Here is what I do for now:

Thanks Eric for the ideas but that really isn't a practical solution for me. I still maintain that if you're serious about the launch of your flagship camera (which this is for now) you do so with the supply chain for vital accessories in place before that launch. 'Trickling' supplies are simply not good enough.

Have you tried www.4mysamsung.co.uk They seem to be the nearest thing to a Samsung spares supplier?

Probably because most of them come with proper chargers (including older Samsungs) , Sony Re-started the charge-in camera disease with the NEX 3N and RX series, I thought we`d finally got rid of that after the Sony R1 era but no it`s back :( .. I`d use a decent universal until the shonky Chinese ones with batteries start to appear .

Anyway Congrats to Adrian on getting the NX30 anyway, how is it compared to the 20 ?

However, Sony does not allow you to use the camera while it is charging. The Samsung can be used while charging. This is a huge difference.

I like to have capability to do both, wall charge externally and use USB to charge.

I agree completely, they should launch with them immediately available, but it also isn't marketed to full professionals where that would be mandatory.

Just to be clear I put the large battery pack in my rear pocket and run the cable up to the camera and can shoot with it for maybe 10 or 12 hours continuous that way (haven't tried).

The camera actually can charge and be used simultaneously this method. Usually though, I just stick the extended battery in the bag and plug it in when I close the bag up and my camera is always fully charged. The camera charges fairly fast via USB and the 2A port on the battery.

Thank you. A couple of questions though. Do you know if the slimmer but slightly less powerful 1000mah version would be significantly slower to charge? They come with leads but I assume they're too short to use if you've got the pack in your back pocket?

In what way is that "huge" , I doubt many would want to carry an AA powered USB Battery pack and have it connected via the fragile Micro-USB port when shooting, the thought of that alone would drive you to buying a proper charger !

Yes but it is useful if you can review photographs in the evening while the camera is charging. My Nex seems to take an interminable time charging the battery and it is frustrating when your camera has to double as a dumb charger. I bought in the end one of the Hahnel Unipal plus chargers where you can move the connector and that works well as having the camera dead to the world all evening was driving me nuts. It does future proof you against system changes. Having a Lithium Ion battery charging overnight while I am asleep does not really appeal to me in case it starts to cook up. Probably OK in camera but dangerous with a third party 2 pin charger which will not read the thermistor in the battery.

In the end I went for the same brand but the 10000mAh 2 usb model as it's lighter and slimmer than the 12000 4 usb version.

Good point, it was a sad day when they stopped putting proper chargers in with the NEX cams (the 7 and 5N still had one) , thankfully there are loads of 3rd party ones about (decent ones even) and even used real sony ones, Sony thankfully seem to have stuck with the same battery for the whole series, Samsung, Canon, Nikon etc love to change the battery style way too often (canon are the worst)

You should be fine with a Hahnel, it`s those shonky £5 chinese things I don`t trust .. I`d still look out for a used Sony charger on E-Bay though

For all my batteries I use a common charger from the brand PIXO from Germany see: pixo.de
Thanks but non of the PIXO chargers look like they'll take camera batteries, just AA and AAA

Thank you but even using Google Translator i'm not confident about what I'd be getting and whether it would work with the Samsung battery which only has contacts at one end. For now I'm going to buy an external charger as Eric (Viking) has done.
