On Wednesday 9th April a Sydney Digidirect/Olympus "shoot the city lights" night will happen, no RSVP needed, just turn up. If you need to try and bend the ear of an Olympus person then they will be there showing off the E-M10.

The notice that I received....

If the weather behaves then I will be there with my trusty E-PL5 and tripod and with a few questions for the Olympus folk.

With/without moderator permission I will bump this from time to time.

Regards.... Guy

Narrows it down to no more than a few million people ... I guess if you get the Olympus users from Sydney there then there might be a crowd of 10 .... (duck) ... ouch! that hurt .... ;)

New GG in residence - he might let you use the front lawn ....

We discerning types in Sydney number in the many thousands with Olympus cameras, but most have some common-sense and do not inhabit this forum. :-)

That leaves maybe 6 of us who could possibly front up.

How would a GX7 look among the Olygarchy I wonder?

Can't wait to hear what you will have to say about the EM10.

I would suspect that many Oly people would like to look at your GX7.

I can say it right now, I never will buy one.

But it makes the most sense for the photographer who needs to have a viewfinder.

Never any viewfinders for me ever again, I'm past that and enjoy having a camera that I look at and not one I peer through. The viewfinder is an unneeded bump on the camera for me.

Now if they sawed off the viewfinder and called it an E-PL7 then I'd probably be a bit interested.

In truth though I am now sitting on the E-PL5 until a global shutter finally surfaces and is reliable.

It may take a while and I may need to buy a later E-PLx if my E-PL5 dies, but when the global shutter arrives we will finally have an almost digital camera.... next is to get rid of is that mechanical lens aperture.

Meanwhile I'll go to the night shoot mainly to bend the ear of Olympus people about what I think is needed most in later cameras.....

I use the VF2 on mine and wouldn't be able to shoot in bright light without it.

How do you see the lcd in bright sunlight?

I agree that it's an annoying protuberance, especially when you want to see and left the lcd and it gets in the way.

Yes, the LCD is hard to see occasionally, but I trust AF so don't need to peer for focus. Framing works OK and I use 16:9 shooting to get details as large as possible on the LCD and then later use the 4:3 RAW and crop to what I need.

Only once in the last about 15 months of E-PL5 ownership did I need to throw my jacket over my head and the camera to see the LCD, that was on a highly reflective grey pebble beach.

In fact the awful reflective LCD of the LX3 was my training ground at guessing what's on the LCD, did a whole Japan holiday peering at that mirror and trying to shoot, was horrible, became usable when I stuck a Boxwave anti-glare screen on it.

The E-PL5 screen is not as reflective and the tilt action avoids 90% of reflections.

My VF-2 is usually in the bag but have not used it on the camera for that 15 months.

The GG might fly up to Sydders but sadly his lawn would have to stay in Canberra.

Last bump, I promise.

Weather may screw things up if it's like it is right now, lotsa rain...... :-(

bom.gov.au for Wednesday in Sydney "Partly cloudy. Patchy morning fog in the west. Isolated showers. Light winds becoming south to southeasterly 15 to 20 km/h during the afternoon."

But hey, umbrellas are our friend and everything looks nicer when wet due to reflections.

I may be there or may be not. It all depends on how depressing the weather might be.

Regards...... Guy

Hoping it will clear up for the event and that you will have exciting news for us!Isabel

Perfect for the release of a non-weathersealed camera. :D

Updated forecast as at 8:30pm Monday "Cloudy. The chance of light showers during the morning. Winds northeasterly and light becoming west to southwesterly before dawn then becoming east to southeasterly in the middle of the day."

That sounds better.

As for weather sealing, I've been out on Sydney Harbour in a wild windy rainstorm on a square rigger cruise shooting with the E-PL5 and mostly 9-18mm. No problems. Kept wiping the rain off it and only changed lenses in the cabin. Dried it all out in front of a warm air-con vent for an hour or so that evening.

I may come down.

I'll be the guy with the em-5 in my bag and my XP1 in my hand.

:-)

Just to pess them off.
