.......Sorry couldn't resist ;-)..
Depends on what you want to do, if your main line is Sports or
other fast action stuff, the 1D was made for it, that isn't to say
that the camera won't do other stuff as well , or that the 10D
can't shoot sports but certain cameras have heavy biases..
Things to watch out for on a used 1D are the serial number, early
ones had problems with noise banding and some may have slipped the
net of the hardware upgrade - otherwise , it's not like buying an
old D30 or a heavily used D60 as the 1D is a heavy duty Pro hack
camera with a shutter life measured in hundreds of thousands of
clicks instead of thousands, as it's a PJ's dream camera it was
designed to take the Hammer and rigour of daily thrashing..
I'll leave others to point out image quality differences between
the two - Hopefully someone who has actually USED both or owns
both - as my 1D hasn't arrived yet for me to make a judgement..
People moan about the weight of the 1D and it IS a heavy camera,
but Juli Valley was doing the math of the difference in weight
between a 10D fitted with the all essential BG-ED3 battery grip
loaded with two BP-511s COMPARED to a 1D plus battery and the
outcome was that the 10D + Grip was only 200g lighter , 200 Grammes
is only about the weight of the 1.4X teleconverter or a couple of
Macro extension tubes so nothing really and the extra bulk of the
1D means that it seems to balance lenses better as there is more to
grab hold of (that's going by my experience of the 1DS) .. Of
course you can take the grip OFF the 10D (or not buy it at all) if
you want to travel light, you can't do that with a 1D
It all boils down to your favoured use of the camera and the age of
the 1D and it's history
