Tamron 150-600mm Lens thread number 3

I'm glad you finally got your lens and have put it through some adverse weather and still came up with fairy good images of some amazing (to me) subjects. Not bad at all on first try! (Would you say that having used the SX50 was helpful, or is it remotely dissimilar?) Also the lens is said to be have quirky AF on the 7D. Did you find this as well? Anyway, keep posting!

I wouldn't say the SX50 helped at all because they are so different. I'm going out today and try some more BIF so I'll know more about the lens after that. So far though, I haven't noticed that it behaves much differently than my 100-400 with on 7D. I'll post after today..

I was in Jessops the other day when the Tamron rep came in to show the manager. I asked if I could have a look at it, and he let me have a quick play mounted to a Canon body.
It felt very nice and balanced in the hand and certainly didn’t feel too heavy. The autofocus was ok not exceptional but I was racking it through its full range.
I wasn't allowed to take any pictures away, but they looked ok on the lcd screen. He showed me some that he had taken and I was impressed with the quality.
As far as release date goes the Canon mount is already dribbling through, while the Nikon mount is due at end of march and priced at £949 here in UK.
All in all seems to be a very nice lense and I will certainly be placing an order for one once stocks arrive.

Had a chance to take the lens out to shoot a snowy owl this weekend. I was apprehensive about how it would do with BIF compared to my dearly loved Canon 100-400. I was very pleased with the results. For BIF I found that it performed just as well as the Canon, and actually out resolved it due to the extra reach.

Are you sure those photos were not taken with a exotic lens? ..... GREAT pictures, specially the one of the owl looking at the tamron :) ..... what aperture did you use?

Alex

Thanks! I was f8 pretty much the whole time. I was shooting right next to a guy with a Canon 200-400. I asked him to send me a jpg cause I'd really like to see the difference. I thought my shots were super sharp...I have a hard time believing his could be noticeably better.

I love your shots and am finding the same with the Tamron. But, now I want your camera too ;-)

Stunning shots and thanks for posting.

Sad that this lens is taking so much undeserved criticism at the moment.

Denis.

Wow, beautiful shots of a beautiful owl.

May I ask: where is it taken? what AF do you use shooting BIF with this Tamron?
