Picture of G5

It looks like the G5 is more a tweaked G3 not really all that much new. The body is the same thats why themounts are the same.

Canon was obvisously feeling the competition pulling away with their 5MPs. Not that 5Mpo's make better picutres but the customer wants 5 Mp's.

So instead of just makeing it black (like the G2) and chargeing a few hundred more for the color everybody wanted in the first place, they also slapped in the 5Mp sensor that works with the same electrinics in the S50.
the g2 black was never meant to be anything other then a black
camera. it was never claimed to be anything better then the silver
one.

Basically the G5 is what the black G2 was ... the same camera with
a little change and in black. Here the change is bigger as they put
the 5mp sensor in.

G4 probably not used in naming since 4 is unlucky in Asia (kinda
neat in taiwan....no 4th floor, goes from 3 to 5)
It's not quite so extreme in Japan--there are 4th floors, but Japanese people do tend to avoid numbers that "end in death". My first apartment in Tokyo was numbered next door to 403 but was numbered 405. When the landlady built her second apartment block a few years later, though, she was confident enough to use 404 there.

(On the other hand, I've been told of hospitals that use a modified base-8 system, completely avoiding the numbers "4" and "9" (sounds like "suffering").)

Presumably Canon is cautious about using a product number that could possibly worry customers, even though there are perfectly valid native-Japanese (and near-English) ways of pronouncing "4" that sound nothing like "death".

oh boy, they don't waste much time...
the pic maybe fake but I believe canon will have this cam out
shortly, they saw how many silly S50 buyers there were, and decided
lets do a G5 with little change!

Good thing you didn't have any takers. :)

It's official now. The G5 is real.

Funny thing too with lots of dissection of the image with photoshop and many concluded it was a fake. One even concluded based on poor color/image that it was a fake. And yet the simple proof is in the testimony that it was from a magazine. If only we get to trust people more. Or do the legwork to check that issue out (if possible).

There is much to be learned in how to analyze such data. For one, those who said it was a photoedited G3 couldn't be far from the truth. It is a G3 body (basically)!

There is a lot to be learned from being too analytical and dissecting the image, rather than the fact.
