Thanks to brightcolours for hosting the last challenge, Lets talk about cars, and for picking my family car photo as the winner, my Mom and Dad are smiling down on us.

I've always had a hard time in choosing mini challenge topics, this one being no different. I was out today noticing the strange cloud formations overhead, and thought we could do something with all the different shapes, patterns, lines and colors that are around us everyday. For me, the word abstract has a very broad, philosophical, and hard to understand definition, so let's not make this too difficult on ourselves, let's just have fun.

Animals, flowers, clouds, water, just about anything you can think of as long as it's not blatantly man-made. Aircraft contrails (which can have many beautiful shapes) are about as close to man-made as I'll accept. No buildings or statues, etc.

I'm sure we'll get many fine photos from all of our forum friends. Have fun!

Samples will follow in the next post.

This mini challenge will close on Saturday, November 16 at 9 pm, Pacific Standard Time, 5 am GMT on Sunday, November 17.

Regular Rules

The host gives you a topic of interest. You post a maximum of three images. Any picture you've taken is eligible regardless of time taken and camera.

You can do all the post processing you want. However, it is helpful if you list your camera and lens along with your photo (because we like to know).

Feel free to comment on other contestant’s images. If you want people to give you constructive criticism, ask for C&C.

The host chooses the winner, and the decision is final. No matter what you say, the host is likely not going to change their mind after the fact. Remember, it's all about fun and learning.

The winner then hosts the next challenge, judges the winner, and passes on the baton to that person. The winner has 48 hours to post the new challenge. If that doesn't happen 2nd place has 24 hours to do so, and if that doesn't happen it's up to the 3rd place winner.

Posting Guidelines

When posting your picture, change the Subject of your post to display your picture titles and/or your name. This way, when someone replies it will refer specifically to you. If all entries read "Re: *** Mini-Challenge xxx - ... ***" it would be very boring to scan the list.

Either embed your image in the thread or, if you must, supply a link to it. Keep in mind, however, most people don't want to click to open photos hosted elsewhere (i.e. on your website).

You may enter up to 3 pictures, but put them in a single post. Please give a title to each photo, this makes it easier to differentiate when giving comments.

Please size your photo no bigger than around 1600 pixels on the longest dimension. This is to let those with smaller monitors see your image at full resolution. Please limit the file size of your entries to conserve bandwidth.

As a show of courtesy, and to save bandwidth, please remove the original post when replying, so you don't bring back any previous photos.

These are great brightcolours, just what I was looking for in entries. As you can tell by my samples, I'm mostly a sky person. Keep them coming everyone.

I only noticed these two geckos waiting to ambush an insect when the bigger one moved to the side. That, or the bigger one which is a male could be trying all day to mate with the smaller gecko. Do you noticed the frustration on his face? Have a good one!

Ok, so I'm not really sure if these fit into the category of abstract but I figured I'd stick a few in for fun. Here ya go.

I visited Longhorn Caverns State Park a few weeks ago and went caving. I though that the structures along the side of the cave made very interesting studies of form and texture. All of these are solid rock

The first camera bag you buy is always too small

And I have no clue on the third

Here's a cave wall with odd mineral deposits. Colour 'enhanced' a wee bit in my attempt at an abstract.
