Been thinking about it a long time. Got it yesterday, and glad I did. Wearing glasses. First got rid of the rubber around it, mostly using a bit tilt and holding around it, black glove. Good colors and nice contrast. But in low light and sometimes in medium light, the grass or the pavement is "alive". (The EVF in G3 do not have this problem and seems larger, but rather dull and little contrast.) Otherwise I like it, the tilt VERY useful, it's not much in the way. After using it 5 minutes it would not work at all, about to slide backwards...so that's an ok warning. Do not think it will come off before I notice and the cure have been discussed here.

At the same time bought a very good 24" screen. G3 and NX10 images from ok to good. RX1 images just awesome. - Why FF when you make no big prints? - Put them on a big screen and I can see them all the way to the kitchen. Tried low light with ISO 12.800, 5 images. Not to mention the colors, never a problem if WB is right. - With EVF not that many images and less PP. The cost? As we say; if you say A you got to say B. A cost of NOK 25.000 (down from 29.000) with EVF and insurance is rather high with a low income, but absolutely no regrets. Just one problem, can't blame the camera anymore....

I have a similar feeling when focus peaking is turned on. Enjoy your new camera.

Thanks! Actually got the camera for a while, but with EVF and a better screen can see what I'm doing. Still some things to improve, like focusing and WB in night street-light.

I am trying to use and like the EVF with glasses. I am going to try again today with no eye cup. I have to shade my eye with my other hand to block sunlight. I do not have to do this on my DSLR. I do seem to have a love-hate relationship with my RX1. Focus is the real problem. Just only gets it right on at f2.8 or f2 and sometimes at 4. Plus the focus area is so large forget the eyeball for focusing. On the other side, when the focus is right, the images are wonderful and match my D600 with the best lenses, all at a third of the weight.

Friends said, as you need EVF wait for "NEX 9", but glad I did not, got lots of fine images last months. But in a couple of years would like in-built EVF and a bit "zoom". The same problems with focusing, as an amateur it's better than I'm used to, but I guess D600 and D800 are (much) better with focusing. For daily use in town RX1 is wonderful. Someone wrote it's specially made for short distances, not for landscapes, a bit disappointed there. But find it good for clouds. But I'm not the expert.

Not much hate, mostly love. But the EVF should have been in-built. A small thing, if I got it right, viewing images you have to jump to maximum size and gradually back to normal? Would have liked gradually to maximum. - Mainly using "A" (and sometimes "S") what could I then use the wheel over AEL for?

Hard to have it both ways: in your thread-starting post you went on about how you liked the tilt. Were the EVF built-in, it (almost certainly) wouldn't tilt.

Fwiw, I _much_ prefer the camera the way it is: EVF attachable, and tilt-able.

This thread, and especially the last post, have some good hints for portrait focussing the RX1/R:

I got my wife the evf for her rx1. she didn't like it one bit. It made her dizzy. Returned it the next day.

I tried it but didn't care much for it. I would have kept it if it were 1:1 so I can take pictures with both eyes open.

Sorry to hear that. When I said "nice" it's without the rubber around it. Knew it was a gamble as some can't use it. So Sony should make a better version. If it is not made for smaller cameras it could be a bit larger? And people with glasses should be able to see the whole screen.

If I did not have RX1 would probably end up with A7 (or some Fuji or Nikon?).

Did you just remove the Rubber from the eye cup or change it for the small one.

I find it rather difficult to remove the large rubber eye cup. Instructions say to pull it off. Not up down or side ways. What was your experience with this.

AC.

First I removed the large rubber cup because I did not see 100 % (90?). Just took it off I think. Like that for two days. Today put on the small one and think it is mostly like the larger one. Wonder how often you can take them on and off... Without it can see almost 100%.

With glasses the EVFs in G3 and Canon S2 are (over) 100%, so it can be done. While in NX10 maybe under 95.

Wonder if anyone have made their own rubber cups. Not very "deep", soft and a bit wider... With such problems and the high price maybe it's more "ok" than "nice".

You could try this, I find I can put my eyes (with glasses) hard up against the EVF,

use my left hand cupped with middle finger on top of the EVF. Use a strip of Velcro,
the velvet side, in an 'L' configuration, not very elegant but it works.

Looks like I need to do some dusting.

The uncovered strip on the left hand side is the sensor which I switch off anyway.

As you say, not very elegant but it works.

Hope someone from Sony is reading this! They could need some good ideas.

Yep wondering the same "how ofter can one take them on and off without braking the tabs."

Thanks for your reply.

Guess I'll leave them off for good. As for the light coming in around it then, should be a bit less the more you tilt it? Anyway it will be very useful for composing and fewer images taken, and also for reviewing images. Will save a lot of time. (Also saved time only reading for 5 minutes about the new Nikon, no EVF.)

Could be wise to read a lot of reviews before buying this EVF. And even then it can be a gamble.
