No dust on 5D3 sensor?

I have taken about 4500 photos on my 5D3 with numerous lens changes with virtually no dust specks on the sensor, compared with my 5D2 which seemed to be a dust magnet! Am I just unconsciously getting better at keeping dust out or is there some sort of improvement in the dust rejection system on the new camera?

Probably both .

ps

After about an year of rather intense use of 5d3 a spec of dust appeared in the viewfinder , with no consequence on output .

+1.. though not as used as yours... my 5d3 is the cleanest of all my cameras ever

PS.. I have it set to auto clean with start up

I have had a 5D mkIII for a year now and have yet to wet clean it. I have a camera body on a 70-200 (Nikon D800E) all the time and the 5DIII gets switched between the 24-70 f/2.8L II and the 16-35 and sometimes the TS-E 17 f/4L, but most of the it is on the 24-70 so lens changes are not so often, but I have been impressed with the lack of dust.

I still see dusts with my 5D3 in airshow photos on some slow prop-driven planes when took under slow shutter that forced aperture jumped to F16 for example. I cleaned myself or sent to Canon for cleaning by using CPS benefit. I swapped lenses lots and frequently.

Never had problems with a 5DII either. I put it down to stopping wearing synthetic grey leather shoes and nylon budgie snugglers. Since doing that I rarely get zapped when stepping off escalators and I'm convinced the auto clean system has an easier time of it when it doesn't have my personal static charge to deal with as well.

:-D
My dust problems went away when I stopped eating carrots on the third Wednesday of months that end in "R". Sorry. I know you're being serious.
I wasn't actually. :-D
It just struck me as funny.

On a serious note, my 5D3 also seems to be significantly less prone to dust collection than other cameras I've owned. I haven't had my 70D for too long, but it is staying clean so far. If Canon has discovered a solution, they will keep it secret. We can just be happy to not having to wet clean so often. I really don't miss that bit of housekeeping.

A similar flourine coating as used on certain lenses like the MkIII Extenders?

I remember reading that canon does put some kind of non-stick coating on the sensor cover. It had something similar on the 5D2 as well, but they may have improved it on the 5D3.

I have never had to clean either cameras sensor manually, and I do check for dust spots in my pictures. I did detect a dust spot once but it went away after an auto clean cycle.

I've had my MKIII for just over a year now, and only needed to wet clean it once.

I would have to do my 60D almost every month.

Really? My 60D dust prevention is pretty good and I only wet cleaned after about one year's usage after some trips (Disney parks with two zoom lenses, Alaska, Italy...) and numerous lens swaps. I was surprised I see dusts in my 5D3 (but only obvious in high F numbers) within one year that could be resulted from frequent lens swaps and under some hazard weather conditions - very windy in the Jones Beach airshow, windy Cancun beach and pretty dusty in Masai Mara. I guess it depends how you use it and under what environmental or weather conditions.

I've noticed the same thing as you and others in this thread. My 5D3 is so resistant to sensor dust I can hardly believe it. I've had it over 18 months, the shutter count is at 60,000 and I've been changing lenses frequently in very hostile conditions (think deserts, windy beaches, dusty open safari trucks, once even in a sandstorm!). I check the sensor regularly for dust and so far I've only had to clean it with a brush once and not had to wet clean it at all. Amazing.

Compare that to my 40D which would need cleaning after almost every outing.

I do have the 5D3 set to autoclean on startup but then I'm pretty sure I had that enabled on my 40D too.

i have owned a 5D III for over a year (16 months) and still haven't cleaned the sensor. no dust.

I've had my III for close to 6 month, and it's still clean and I work it hard. My II was always dirty!

I have some 20K and seldom there is a dust which were all over my 5D1/5D2 sensors.

Are you just making this up?

The 5D II hardly attracted any dust whatsoever.

(The 5D did, but its an old design)
