Unbelievable... DavidP to be banned...

I did wonder why you would have "singled out" davidp's post. Thanks for clearing the air.

I do agree with you. There are ALOT of OT posts. It would be nice if there were a "general photo" forum that addresses posts that don't directly relate to canon dslr issues.
Geez, after all the posts about the war, peace, George Bush,
democrats, politics and religion, one would think that having OT
posts moved by Phil wouldn't get much attention!

First off, I did not report anyone.
Secondly, by commenting on what I believe is in the spirit of the
forum rules, you label me as a control freak...and yet you are
declaring a boycott of my posts based on a false assumption...hmmm,
no control freak behavior there!

So let me get this straight: It is okay to try to censor someone
and call for a boycott against someone who is asking (politely I
may add) for people to go with the spirit of the forum rules Phil
set up.

And let me get this straight...You really believe that anyone has
"control over this forum" ???!!! LOL! No way.

So do you think it is appropriate to have flame and attack me?
Does that part of what Phil intended for this forum not apply to
you?

I await your apology.

Thanks.
Either koalafarm or KiranP complained to Phil about DavidP's post
about his Epson 2200. Phil even went so far as threantening to ban
DavidP unless he behaves and then moved his post to the "Open
forum" forum!!
Unbelievable!! Neither koalafarm or KiranP have contributed
anything of value to this forum except their requirements to censor
the subject line and/or the content of every post on this forum.
How dare they!! How is it that the anal rentative types have any
control over this forum. I advise all to boycott all post from
these two control freaks.
DavidP, you are a learning process, keep posting!
I have sent a complaint about koalafarm and kiranp to phil. I
encourage all that feel the same to email Phil as well.
Don't let this forum be controlled by those that wish to censor
this forum. Please send an email to Phil expressing your feelings.

You KNOW there will be some "Where's DavidP" posts after a day or
so of your absence....;^) So...you'll be contributing to off topic
posts even when you aren't around ;^)

I'd say make an announcement...but then again that would be off topic.

Tattaglia's a pimp. He never could've outfoxed Santino. But I didn't know until this day that it was Barzini all along....
kidding...

I am just attention seeking...

hehehehe

is this off topic?

A meeting of the heads of the Five Families and associates - from upper New York State, New Jersey and Manhattan's West Side docks, the Bronx, and Staten Island (Barzini and Tattaglia are both dons there), including twelve principals, is held in a downtown city boardroom. Corleone is the head of the Sixth Family. Debate first centers around Corleone's refusal to allow drug trafficking and share "all the judges and the politicians" in New York. Corleone wishes to end the endless months of slaughter. From their short meeting, Corleone perceptively understands that Barzini had backed Sollozzo and Tattaglia from the very beginning.

At Cannes this year I'd say fully 70% were shooting Canon ...I was on contract so I didn't have to worry like the media hacks but whoa ...loved it.
All that L glass pointed at the bozo's ....was real cool!
I now get turned on by B.Simpson's "Nun 666" LOL. She hit my G-spot
(remember, I want 66,666,666 pixels LOL). David, you need to post
an updated version of your pin-up to restore the leadership and
turn me away from evil-doer's temptations! :))

'Stop it now or you will go blind'

having lots of trouble with this site lately and the way it holds
cookies....

dunno if it's just me or I need a windows XP reinstall.
I know there is an issue (atleast there used to be) if you're used to accessing this site as http://dpreview.com/ . In that case the cookie won't reassert yourself until the URL (eventually) turns into http://www.dpreview.com/ .

Try clicking on "My threads" and see if the site then considers you as logged on.

(atleast that was my experience a couple of months ago)

It could also be your Internet security settings. (accessible by doubleclicking "Internet" in the bottom right corner of IE)

As for DavidP: IMO some leeway should be permitted. I can understand that Phil wants to add more traffic to his other forums, but following more forums than Canon SLR is very timeconsuming. (I've been trying to get a foot in in the lighting forum) I agree that subjects shouldn't be misleading, but OTOH most of us reads DavidP's OT threads with great interest too, so... (again: Leeway)

With 10's of thousands of concurrent threads in these forums, I find it's pretty easy to deal with threads that don't have descriptive enough subject lines; I skip over them.

-Erik
First of all, I never spoke to Phil at all. Second of all, I
wasn't even trying to get the post moved. All I asked is that
threads should have appropriate titles so that we can decide if its
something we want to read or not, as opposed to just having to
click on it cause we didn't know what it was about at all.
Thirdly, I have actually been quite helpful. Just a couple of days
ago I helped fill someone in about white balance issues. Even
though many people wrote 2 cents, I went to the trouble to outline
the differences between AWB, presets, manual, and using the temp.
scale. And that was jsut a few days ago, never mind the number of
times I've really helped way before that.

I don't want David banned at all so please stop your witch hunt.
Clicking on some of these threads is like opening up a book without
reading the title. Would it be great if all the thread titles just
started with a number... as in Theard 20324, then 20325 and so on?
Cause that is what its like sometimes when people don't take the 10
seconds to think of a thoughtful title.

Tell you what, if my idea was so bad, start posting messages with
wacky thread titles and see how many other people you pi$$ off,
cause I can assure you, its not just me, and my intentions were
only to help the greatest number of people here. Cause you know,
we do have lots of people here now. Its not just you anymore, who
may be part of the in group that gets to decide how things are run.

Now I'm curious. Exactly what did you say to Phil? "Ban this guy
cause he's trying to take the forum over by just asking people to
post an appropriate title?" Whatever happened to Phil knows best,
its his forum. Looks like he moved David's thread and everything
else remains intact. So exactly who was in the wrong here buddy?
(and just incase anyone asks, I didn't even think david was in teh
wrong. all i wanted was a move to better thread titles)

I do have to commend you on your title though. It was very
accurate and descriptive. Looks like my suggestions are helping.

Find a job you like doing, and you'll never have to work a day in your life.

I've never seen you get so stoked in a post Scooter. You're pretty level headed. (No offense buddy :)

I find now that I'm beginning to look more at the people posting rather than the subject lines. People like yourself, Juli, Diane, DavidP, Paul Pope (Paul, I still hate you cause you always have some nice models ;-), Melanie, PearlRider, and several others (sorry for leaving off names) would either have something useful to say, some wonderful images posted, or even something funny. So I agree with ya fully that I come here to learn from the "real pros" and ignore the noise in other posts.

(Now if I could just get people to look at my pictures :-p)

Hang in there Scooter! :)

I'm a huge sports fan and I've seen the same thing happen on
football message boards.

There are those who whine about what someone else posts
incessently, the same old whiny "off topic police". Well you know
what, I DON'T OWN A 10d and couldn't care less about the topic,
but... do I complain about the tidal wave of 10d posts? No, I skip
those posts because those folks have EVERY RIGHT AND REASON TO COME
HERE TO DISCUSS THE NON STOP 10d FRONT FOCUS THINGY. That's cool!

Why are some of you so anal? DavidP is a heck of a photographer as
well as contributor to this board. GET A LIFE! I come here to
learn from the REAL PROS, and I skip the topics that don't interest
me. Why can't some others do the same?

If this board loses the likes of DavidP, it loses the interest of
the likes of me. Some folks need to quit micromanaging and just
take pictures. UGH!

Do you know for a fact that these people sent an email? If you have
a problem then leave. DavidP seems not to have a problem,
he is still here.

Actually I bored to death seeing his threads on car retails, ruler tests,
someone does not like his photos, please love me, etc, etc. etc. threads.
Cannot wait to see his message that he just bought a brand new tooth
brush and should he keep the old one. Just like I bored to see messages
on the latest status of Dell/Gateway orders or photos of Dogs/Cats.

I choose to skip them and people have the right to complain if they
feel some messages should not be posted here. It is Phil Askey to
decide if a complaint is valid or not. So the so call problem is not
koalafarm or KiranP, it's Phil Asky.
Please send an email to Phil expressing your feelings
So I will send an email to Phil saying keep up the good work!

this is more than just a forum about Canon SLRs. It is a community of posters who share a connection that includes all aspects of photography. Many OT posts are informative and of interest to many. If they are relegated to other forums then they are lost to this community and will probably be viewed by few.

Not interested in a post? Don't read it.
for all those people looking for expert advice on the Epson 2200,
wouldn't it be cool if they could go to a forum - just for kicks,
lets call it "printers" and get what they need...rather than go to
Canon DSLR and do a search, and "Nikon DSLR" and do a search...etc,
etc.

Can't believe people wouldn't see value in that

That Phil is running a business, not a charity, not a commune.
His rules make business sense.

If you are a potential advertiser or even investor and you wanted to see how much people were talking about the Epson 2200 - and you didn't see a lot because the knowledgeable posters like DavidP were posting in the Canon forum, or someone else was posting in the Nikon forum - what would you think? Not a lot of information in the printer forum..

Sure, they look at the numbers, but any smart person would also look in the forums, do some searches, etc.

Secondly, if you were Canon and wanted to advertise, and you looked in the forum and saw posts about politics, rental cars, my order is delayed, I need a new hard drive and a bunch of other drivel, would you spend money on Phil?

Are you saying that Phil is wrong to have a rule and wrong to enforce it? I just don't get it.

Lastly,
