More photos from my hour with the Canadian goose family. The last time I posted I was concerned that the strong light that illuminated the goslings took away their softness. Now you can see them up close and soft as they are. All photos with my Fuji S602 + B-300 at 357mm equivalent.

Very nice, I'm somewhat surprised the mother goose let you get that close. Some of the Canadian honkers we get around here are downright aggressive. A lady I know who lives on a lake by me says they chase her all the time. She even smacked one with a broom and it didnt seem to slow it down. The folks that live on that lake are trying to find a way to get rid of the canadian geese, they were not native and are mean and dirty. Lets just say, all the docks look like catboxes.

awww so cute! This one's my favorite

Morris,

They look so soft and gentle. Not at all like the one that chased me accross the yard and into my tool shed :P. When I lived on a lake we would get 10-20 of the adults in our front yard. I would go down there and scare them off because they made such a mess and I had little ones that I didn't want playin in that mess. Anyway, One day they just quit running away and a couple came after me LOL. My kids still laugh at that one. But I'm not the type to hurt any wild creature so we just made the lakeside yard off limits till they were gone. SQUATERS!

i like the third the best :) he looks so inquisitive!

first one might have been better with a higher number f stop i think to bring all 3 in focus. 3? 3? 3?

hmmm, would have been a good 3 entry :)

nice shooting, i love those little guys!

Beutifull, Morris. I must admit I kind of liked the hard light in you previus post (as I said there). But these are really cute! I'm impressed that you could stay so close.

Super pics as usual Morris. The first and last ones stand out because of the catchlights in the eyes. This always makes a photo of animals stand out.

We have a swannery just up the road and I want to go shoot the babies that are hatching now. Hopefully in the next couple of days.

Good work.

Hi Morris,

The soft light appears to compliment the goslings very well. Personally I think all three shots are excellent – This has given me some inspiration to revisit my local pond!

Andy

Thank you Ted,

At first I kept my distance and I closed that distance very slowly. I was always relaxed and my body language never was threatening. I first approached from an angle so I did not appear to be coming at them. Then I sat for a long time and slowly crept in on them. When the family went for a walk, I went for the walk with them. I then did the same thing again. Only once did the farther honk at me, I looked him in the eyes and said “you have a lovely family and I would not think of hurting them.” He looked at me strange and then left me to take more photos.

Have been comparing the two sets of photos very carefully and find it very difficult to say which I like the most !!. This set with the soft lighting is ideal for the subject and certainly emphasises the delicate down of the goslings. This gives very gentle pictures that I find very appealing.

The original set with the stronger lighting is more dramatic and appeals to the technical side of me, but for the life of me I can't say which is the best.

Both excellent Morris, keep on keeping on !!!!

It would be a great 3 entry had it been taken a few days later.

Thank you Per-Atle,

Yes it’s fun to see them so close. What a ball I had. One time when I was 2 feet away (.66m) the farther honked at me and I looked at him and said to him calmly “you have a very nice family, I would not think of hurting it.” He looked at me strangely and let me continue to shoot.

Since you were shooting this at full zoom plus B300, did you use a tripod? If you used one, I'm amazed at how you could get up close to them with a menacing-looking device. If you did not, I'm amazed at how steady your hands are.
