What cable do people use for tethered shooting?

The USB cable that came with my camera, plus a generic 3-meter USB extension cable. I'm sure you can find an extension cable of at least 5 meters, then just link two of them together. You can secure the contact point between them with electrical tape if necessary.

try this web site .. I have found results for every need .. monoprice.com .......

I havent been able to find a usb cable in that length.

What is everyone else using?
Remember 10m is the limit of what the USB standard allows for - you'll probably want to be using an "active" cable.

With a cable that long, you'll need to provide power along the way - with the USB standard and regular cables/extensions the signal will drop too much to be reliable over that range.

Actually, USB spec says 16ft (5m) is maximum passive cable length. If you need anything longer, you need a powered extension. If an extension runs on bus power, be careful using a laptop, especially on battery power. It might not provide enough juice to power an active extension.

You can add powered extensions (sometimes called active USB cables). I'm not sure of the limit, and you may need more than one.

But in the end, I don't know if USB can manage such a distance.
