What shooting mode do U use most?

Av 80% of the time since a couple of stops either way can make a critical difference and I want to be able to control that. Even for sports I'll choose Av since it'll select the fastest shutter speed possible when wide open.

Tv 10% of the time when I need a specific speed to display motion, i.e, 1/100 for prop blur, or 1/8 for a smooth, creamy waterfall.

Manual 10% of the time for specific conditions, i.e., night scenes requiring certain demanding criteria

When shooting with autofocus lenses, I tend to use Av (aperture priority) mode to maintain the desired DOF probably 90% of time, unless I need to set a specific shutter speed, then I use S or M, depending on the situation.

When using manual focus legacy glass, which is at least 50% of my shooting nowadays, I mostly use Shutter priority, which works more like a M mode with auto-ISO. I set the aperture on the lens, shutter speed on camera, and it selects ISO value to match EC setting.

I started on manual when I took up photography 2yrs ago, & just stayed with it. I feels more comfortable. I occasionally use auto ISO. I find the thing I have most "trouble" with, is metering & focus modes [on 7D]

Aperture priority. What the heck is tablet mode??
Tablet: what I need to take when working out what all the other modes do!

Primarily Av with a smattering of TV and manual modes.

I use aperture priority in most cases and adjust exposure accordingly. If shooting landscape HDR, then I use one of my programmed modes that customizes my WB, uses one of the priority modes, and engages the timer because I don't have a remote shutter release.

Av normal shooting Or mAn

ual plus auto iso. Nikon style auto iso which allows ec. I use this if I need to lock shutter speed and aperture.

Then in order.

Manual

Shutter

Program

Auto

I use manual 100% of the time. The reason for this is that I'm new to photography and cameras. Manual mode allows me to learn the camera in a way that fits the way I learn. I've used Aperture and Shutter modes, as well as auto, but manual has been the most effective in teaching me.

aperture priority with auto-iso usually. i adjust the shutter speed to 1 stop fast unless it's getting dark. then i accept the 1/fl formula and try to be more steady. i use easy compensation a lot to get rid of blinkies or brighten the image (after chimping and evaluating the histogram)

Aperture Priority most of the time.

P mode followed by M mode (I'd say 65-30) and 5% A mode.

50% Aperture

30% Shutter (night shoot and playing with slow shutter speed)

20% Manual (when none of the above work)

Auto ISO Off

High burst mode, with zone focusing (9 point)

I generally leave my camera on auto-aperture, auto-shutter speed, fixed ISO (at whatever I think it needs) and centre-point autofocus. For me that is 'P mode', but my camera doesn't have a mode dial.

I'll switch to aperture priority, shutter priority or full manual the moment I think I know better than the camera how to get the result I want. Same with focusing.

At work, mostly Manual. On my own time, a mix of Manual and Aperture Value. (I do not try to keep up with the numbers.) Occasionally, for action, I use Time Value/Shutter Priority.

I stopped using "green box" and the "scene modes" within a few months of starting with DSLRs, as I learned Manual and A quite early, and soon afterward learned to use S/T. (I learned to use both Nikon and Canon DSLRs at the same time.) I never learned to use P, and see no reason to do so.

I wear a badge and pistol, and, primarily with 7D cameras, shoot evidentiary images at night, which incorporates elements of portrait, macro, still life, landscape, architecture, PJ, and occasional action.

lbj You & I are the same in this regard. I started with manual right from the beginning 2yrs ago& have had no reason so far, to change. I have flirted with AV &TV, but always gone back to man.

Yeh and usually I find that I only have to worry about two factors at a time. I generally know what aperture I want to shoot with so that gets set at an early time. From there, I'm just juggling shutter speed and ISO to get enough/less light on the sensor.

Of course it can get more complicated than this, but that's the gist of it. All in all, I think shooting in manual is teaching me to

1.) Consciously evaluate light and predict what settings it will take for a desirable exposure

2.) Visualize the internal workings of the camera as I make adjustments

I was expecting most to say "Auto" or "Program" or the other idiot modes. Good to see that folks don't always let the camera do everything. ;-)

Thanks for replying.
