I am looking to buy a D700, but now that the D800 and D600 are out, I am not sure if I'll still get support for the D700.

Does anyone know what is the policy of Nikon on the D700 End Of Life (EOL)?

Solution
The D700 was discontinued sometime ago. If you can find one new in a shop, it should still have the normal warranty.

If you buy used, in the USA, the warranty does not transfer to you. Not sure how that is handled in Kuwait.

Nikon will have parts for the D700 for many years, but you will probably have to pay for repairs.

Is it correct to say that since its discontinued, I cannot buy any new ones, but the already sold models - if under warranty - are still being supported; all others that have their warranties expired are serviced but at the owner's expense. Is that a fair assessment?

Does this affect the compatibility of accessories? I know lenses shouldn't be a problem, but I'm worried about accessories. For example, can I still purchase a grip for it?

The D700 is listed as current in Europe, though I understand not in Japan as the battery does not meet the latest Japanese regulations.

If Nikon USA import it, it should be listed on the Nikon USA website.

It is discontinued. If you can find and buy a new one, the warranty will be valid. If you buy a used one, there is no warranty. Parts will be available for quite some time, so you will be able to get it fixed if needed, probably at your expense in most cases.

In most cases I have investigated myself, accessories tend to be available for some time after the basic item is discontinued. May I suggest you check the websites for B&H, Adorama, and other providers.

Ouch! No kidding!

Of course they had to discontinue a fine, solid, perfectly capable camera to 'upgrade' with ones that mean you need to replace all your batteries, lenses and computer.

It's called planned obsolescence and we're all drones to it :(
