Has anyone noticed how similar the GR is to the GXR in appearance and controls? No module of course, but GXR DNA is definitely in this camera.

yes and they kept the same battery and charger which is great news for previous grd owners .. and for me as I will need only ONE battery for this GR and my sigma dpm"s

Yep, it's great they have the same batteries and charger.

I got my pre-order in within 5 minutes of launch :-)

Unfortunately for me I cannot pre-order until I know availability dates . I am in the US only until the end of the month. I will buy the camera for sure but not sure where. ( going to France and Japan next )

It is listed as ¥99,800 on the Pentax site, with is over US$1,000. No way I will be paying this. The price will surely go down, but a 20% penalty for buying local is outrageous. If it were Y75,000 I would have my order in already (online or at Yodobashi Camera).

Thank you for that. I got my pre order in with BH! This has been my dream camera...I've been waiting for the day Ricoh brought us a GRD with not only the best compact camera ergonomics in the industry, but the IQ to go along with it. WIth a sensor this size, I think this may be the perfect camera for me to take ANYWHERE.

I never ever pre-order anything, but considering how the past GRDs have sold out in the past, I had to jump on this immediately.

...I can hardly wait.

They always list the full price during the pre-order but when it's actually in the shop it'll be lower priced! Japanese rip off system for you...

Also I wouldn't buy from Yodo, almost by default 10% higher than anywhere else (points and all)! It's listed at Map Camera for somewhat lower but I can't yet find it on Kakaku.com!

I am not going get anything now, pretty happy with the GXR, am thinking of getting a Zeiss ZM 25mm F2.8! Same price...

Good news about battery and charger! Absolutely sure of this? A friend trying to sell a GRD with a small fault very cheap, now where are my running shoes....

So then I only need the camera. Ricoh fell out because of bad service here, who will sell it now... Promising preview. But jpegs not as good as Nikon A? And where are the low light samples?
Ricoh's jpegs have never thrilled me compared to RAW conversion. This is nothing new for me, and even with jpegs I never use straight from camera, I always tweak.

The silver GR they had on show actually looks okay. The faux wood/leather grips on the others don't grab me though.
