Michigan is just not a good place for pictures now. Everything is brown. That said, I did have a chance saturday to visit a small pond with some geese in it. Sky was overcast when I took the shots, so the ISO was high, but should still be usable. I took lots of pictures and these were the only ones that turned out halfway decent.

goose - 50x - no PP

goose - 50x - with PP

Goose 2 - 50x - no PP

Look at these more than 50% and they look like watercolors. These were taken on auto I think. I had a heck of time getting the focus locked in because of the tree branches and twigs in the way of the geese. I did manual focus and that seemed to help, but I was guessing most of the time. Frankly, this camera is useless in anything but sunlight. I guess I'll have to wait for spring to pop in a couple of months before I see anything worthy of a desirable image.

Sorry, somehow my captions disappeared on some of these. The originals are all 50x and the ISO's range from 200 to 400 I think. The original are posted first followed by the ones with PP. Looks like my exif data is lost too. The last one is included to show my shake issue. If you zoom in to the edge of the sign you'll see a slight double image and I see that on almost all the zooms I take.

For bad conditions they look fine, and a couple if not for the branches were striking, they are getting better!!

Was the camera made in Japan.

I am in two minds whether to get HX300 or 200 (or even 100)

I think the older HX200V and HX100V were made in Japan and just wondering whether these are still made there.

Thanks

Mine is made in China--even Sony goes there to make cheaper products, just like Walmart and Apple. These people get around .25cents an hour I think, so the camera probably cost around $50 to make considering materials.

Thanks for the information.

Just now, I have placed an order HX200V (clearance from Sony UK). I was hopping to get HX300 but HX200V was almost half the price of HX300 so couldn't resist.

Please keep your pictures and input coming. I am still interest in HX300 and may switch it to.

Thanks

use the smallest focus brackets (Movable) shoot on A mode

Half the price and an almost immeasurably greater level of performance. No one will look at your pictures and remark on them, just because of a new model number. You'll have to take very good photos with it, to get anyone to notice. No one will tell you that your shots are nice, unless they really are.

Found myself in a similar situation, trying to focus on a gator around brush. I zoomed in as close as possible, then used tracking focus to zero in on the gator, and the focus then worked fine.

I'll show this one again. I had no trouble getting the HX300 to focus tightly and stay on the subjects, even through intervening tree limbs. For both photos and videos. Of course, the sunlight was bright. But the main problem was that at full zoom, the images just simply looked unrefined and as though they were shot through that legendary coke bottle, instead of good lens glass. Even though a few people are showing photos from this camera that look generally good, a sharp edge of clarity is what's missing. The second photo is of a Mallard drake in similar sunlight, from an HX1 with a 10-MP sensor, although at a shorter focal-length.
