I have a slight preference for the black, but have heard issue with paint scratches showing silver underneath???

I guess it doesn't matter so much either way, but would appreciate any comments on which color to pick.

Of course it is personal preference. I got the silver as that caught my eye the first time I saw the camera and loved it. No regrets and no problems at all with chipping.

Also, if you purchase a half case that will protect much of the body for any damage. I own a Garitz half case and it perfect both in style and function - it has an opening to access the battery compartment and also a screw hole on the bottom to attach to a tripod plate. Another reason to get a half case is that it is easier to hold the camera as it is slightly thicker.

Get the color you like!!!

The silver is nice, but probably draws a bit more attention because of the retro look. I went with the all-black and it's beautiful, also less conspicuous. Matches the lenses wonderfully. Really no wrong answer, but if you want to avoid too much attention (for street photography / photojournalism) you may want to go all black.

Good luck and hope you get one soon!

Hi, I fully understand your concerns about the camera'S color, I've been in the same boat. There are some pictures on the net of someone treating his black X-E1 with sandpaper. The result looks pretty cool, actually. Personally, I decided to get the silver one. I saw it next to a black one at my camera store and it simply appealed more to me.

I'm not convinced about all the "stealth"-talk. Cameras were silver in the 60s and 70s, too, and photographers used them back then.

Get the one you like most and enjoy using it!

Probably a lot easier to find black touch-up paint.

My X-E1 is black, but I just bought black because I prefer it.

Actually the base colour is dark grey (magnesium) and I've read several complaints are about the silver finish wearing off to show the magnesium colour beneath so you'll have that problem whichever colour you buy.

I haven't experienced this wearing on my XP1 and it occurs to me now that I haven't read of anyone else finding wear on their XP1. Am I wrong? Does any XP1 user have this wear problem?

I went silver after all. Looks cool in contrast the black lenses and reminds me of the color scheme of my first rangefinder I inherited from my dad when I was a teenager, as well as the OM-1 which was my first real SLR.

Thanks for all the comments- glad to here the paint issues I found when I searched previously aren't really an issue!

I'd be happy with that colour - looks cool and well used - as you say, just like it's been used in a conflict situation. How about putting a small ding on the front plate (where the camera saved your life from a bullet or shrapnel).
On a positive note, this might make it less likely to be stolen. On a negative note I wonder how Fuji would treat this if you sent it in for warranty. "OH MY! Obviously customer abuse. Warranty denied." Not to mention resale will be a tough proposition (never say never.)

P.S. Love the uglified look.

Brilliant treatment of the camera!

The camera is a tool, and treating it as a porcelain vase detracts somewhat from it's purpose (to capture images). I am not saying that one should be careless and bump or drop the camera, but obsessing too much is a waste of time.

I feel (but it's a personal thing) that keeping the camera neatly in a full case and only taking it out from time to time puts too much value on the gadget (camera) and less on the photographing part.

I think I'd agree with you there, Andrei. A camera that's living in a bag or even a full-case won't take as many images as one that's hanging "naked" from the photographer's side. I think I'll try stop worrying about scratches, the first one is probably the most painful one, anyway. :-)

Do you guys here think that reflections from the silver body might be a problem? I have yet to see pictures that confirm this warning about silver cameras.
