If there is one image out of all you've shot, across all time...

There are so many fine images posted here already I don't know where to begin. Out of the thousands of photographs I have taken, I have only one photograph, however, I remain pleased with artistically (I like BW and like to play with light):

For personal reasons, however, I have two more:

My two daughters.

My younger daughter who is a professional modern dancer.

Michael .... I can see why too. Just the right magical interplay of light and shadow. Just brilliant.

Oh, so very difficult for many are like children, and how can you pick a favorite child--you love each in a different way. However, here are two images that I'm always revisiting.

George

PS: These are big files and clarity of the image is better when made larger.

great idea raaj and wonderful images in this thread again.

here's my choice:
(I have somehow managed to drop the boys and fountain image off when posting - sorry)

Beautiful image here - the water droplets behind from what is obviously a fountain catches all the sun light to give this a fantasy feel - just what the doctor ordered to frame the priceless expressions on the faces of the two boys. Simply priceless!

Did you keep the temperature rather cool in the studio on purpose? I can count all the goose bumps on her skin .... currently up to 495, 496, 497 ....... Seriously though, wonderfully lit - a brilliant portrait. Full marks to you.

Raaj, I especially like 1 and 2. I like the overall atmosphere of 1, the general fuzzy quality with the red sky creates such an evocative effect, and the combination of the same type of sky with the placement of the birds creates an excellent overall composition.

Great idea you have for this thread.

Michael

David, your first picture especially is wonderful. It's a great portrait: beautiful woman and great expression. Very nice.

I've shot thousands of frames and there are probably so far 100 photos I would be proud to display in a gallery. If I had to choose just one though...

Great thread Raaj.

A real tall order picking just one shot! Here's mine. I'm not sure that any one of my shots in particular would get to the person behind the camera, but if I had to have one printed up, framed and put on display in a gallery to represent me, then I wouldn't be unhappy if it was this one:

I envy those of you who can go through your shots and choose the ones that are your favorite!

For me, going through my photo folders is something quite painful; I honestly, just don’t like any and hope that my favorite shot, the one that would also represent me well, would be the one that I haven’t shot yet!

But to play the game; here a few and sorry if there is not only one and if my interpretation of the thread is wrong!

Across all time is a very broad range of visual perceptions and points of view of life. Any image I might present would be only valid for a brief point of time in which I might seriously engaged with the subject. One subject does not "define" me - being one subject bound would be a serious constriction to the real flavour of life. Shooting theatre, dance, show jumping, speed skating, motorcycle racing, women, etc are, as a sum total, define what I see - you cannot choose one image in these separate subject materials that is "best".

Even with a subject category (for example, "women") how can you choose a DEFINITIVE image since the preference of one over the other is purely at the whim of YOUR instantaneous emotions with that image.

If I were to choose a single image, it is possibly the first one - since I am currently seeing women as character portraits. This is not the best portrait - however it is in a style that I currently am trying to explore - thus making it "better" than other portraits - and currently "definitive". And, .. these images just happen to be on my server for a long while and are conveniently available - newer images have a different "texture".

Tony,

You're presented us with some beautiful images here. Thanks for sharing them - inspiring images they are.

Completely agree with you - no one image can definitely represent a photographer, nor is it a static choice. In fact, today, my choice is different from the image I posted. It is a fun exercise though, at any given point in time, to find the one image out of one's work, that is the most captivating.

Cheers,

-raaj
