...that represents you as the photographer, what would that image be? One image only, THE one image so far. I was thinking about this idea this evening and frankly having trouble identifying that one image. I came up with these as the "finalists":

p1418913678-5.jpg

p1418913694-5.jpg

p1418915032-5.jpg

p926788798-5.jpg

But finally, at the end of it all, this is the ONE image for me, so far:

p1418915032-5.jpg

Please post that ONE image for you. You're welcome to post the "finalists" but you have to distill it to that one image.

cheers,

-raaj

I think I would choose this one:

"Man and his Shadow"

You know that is asking the impossible (or near impossible) selecting the ONE image for all time at that. Without even looking through my images, I see a slideshow in my mind of my children when they were younger and when I first met my wife. They have been the defining and enduring memories for me. And you know what ... they were all taken without all this fine gear I now own. Says something doesn't it!

As I was writing this, it became clearer to me that the images that meant the most to me are the ones of my wife. Five images made the shortlist (and 50 others could easily have) ....

....but the first one has the greatest meaning for me.

Thank you Raaj for the idea and what it brought into my life over the past hour. A feeling you can't buy with all the tea in China.

Dear Raaj,

here's a great idea! Firstly, your image selected, is surely much a part of your being ...
This side borderline, I guess!

I'm exhausted right now, and I do not see the end ..... But I wanted to participate in your thread! And it is with a great pleasure.

Just before, congratulations to our friends Peter and David for their respective proposals.

I knew the image of magician Peter! But I find the choice of David, and I think this first portrait (his choice of heart) really exellent ....

Here is my diptych (sorry, I know we should propose a single photo) ... But I think these two pictures blend perfectly ... They are also very good part of my soul!

There are others I might choose, however some 20 years after taking this image I discovered it had been a source of inspiration for students studying photography at the same college I attended.

Context: Worrying over a compulsory purchase order for her house this widow reflected on her life in the street where her parents, herself and her children had all been born and brought up - The site where her house stood is still empty 35 years on.

David, this was easy for you to choose. You have such a fantastic "Model". But I bet you must have hundreds photos of her and I am sure the most difficult part for you would be to pick just !...

If it is any help, my favorite of these 5 shots is the first one. I just love her expression, her pose and your composition!...

I was just thinking that also with your two gorgeous daughters, your task of selection becomes even more difficult! ... Besides, I have no doubt that the best photos of "Sandra" are those that we would probably never see!...

Peter,

Out of your portfolio, this is one of my all time favorites and I am not surprised that you picked it. There is one other image that sort of defines you, in my mind. I can not find it at the moment, but is was an image shot into the light of a person crossing a wide expanse, a plaza of sorts with a statue in the frame. I think you know which one that is.

Anyways, thanks for posting your ONE image, it is superb.

Cheers,

-raaj

David,

Gorgeous images of a very gorgeous lady! Glad this idea brought some memories for you. I too love the first image - it captures a fabulous moment.

You have so many great images, that I can well image how tough a choice this must have been. It is also interesting that you chose this image because that speaks to your interpretation of what this thread called for and for what is most important to you, even as it relates to your photography.

Peter,

This is a fabulous image - it has the feel of something one would expect to see in a collection of images by Robert Adams or others of that ilk. Your context and the modern day image of that area adds to the poignancy of the situation, though your original image stands strongly on it's own.

Thanks for sharing this.

John, that is a beautiful image and I can see why you'd pick it. It conveys a mood that suggest fall, though is by no means a sombre mood. Well done!
