Hello from the blue skies and warm days of Dallas, TX. I've seen blooming flowers already I probably will not see for another 30 days at home.

I am traveling with the S5 which is currently the most compact DSLR body I own. I took a few images last evening and I brought down some photos from home to post. I am not sure I will be able to break away from the family to get the computer time I need to do the photos. I am really not fighting that hard to do that.

So it's up to you members to take it from here. I will be lurking for the results. Como esta? Well, that pretty much exhausts my 6th grade Spanish.

I have not made photos recently but have been lurking here without fail. Since FlossTycoon could not post any photos I will do some real old ones from S2.

Wow!

Its been so long since I posted that I don't even know that embeded photos do not show up on this forum anymore. Sory.

Greetings fellow Fujistas!

Did only some light test this week and some experimental editing with new software to old photos, here's one from last year, a self portrait:

And here's one from the light test:

Cheers!

We had two snowstorms in the last week, and Saturday morning we had hoar frost, so I took the S3 out to see if I could get some good photos.

Hope you're enjoying a warm weather respite in Dallas, Alan. Actually, been pretty cool here of late. We've had frost delays for a week straight and I'm waiting for the warmer weather to hit. Supposed to be in the 80s this weekend, so we'll see.

Beautiful images so far, guys. Devinder, the S2 still rocks. I've included an image of a purple flower similar to yours. Freymond, love the tonality of your self portrait. Delbert, never knew what a hoar frost was until now. I had a completely different understanding. My bad.

Some S2 and S5 images this week. (No D800 shots.) With spring around the corner, some flower shots. First is a shot similar to Devender's purple thistle flower. S2, probably the Tamron 28-75 2.8 macro zoom.

Another S2 shot, a flower pot outside a bed and breakfast in Ridgefield, CT.

Also S2. A house on the water on Candlewood Lake, CT.

Fisherman cleaning his catch, Long Island Sound. S2.

Now an artsy fartsy flower shot with the S5. Image treated with the Oil Paint Filter is CS6.

Pomegranates on a tree in Boyce Thompson Arboretum, Superior, AZ.

That's it for this week. Hope we get some more action this week. Seems to be dwindling....

Tom

Beautiful images so far everyone and thanks to Alan for keeping this thread alive. Below is a stitched pano from Yoho National Park in the Canadian Rockies (not winter obviously) taken with the S5 in 2007.

Enjoy,

Bob

I have always enjoyed coming here to see the great S5 Pro (and other Sx Pro) pictures. So now I guess I'll have to start seriously looking for a good used S5 Pro as my good old S7000 finally gave up the ghost a couple of days ago. Walked out on the deck to take a picture of the late afternoon sunlight on the lake out back and after snapping, the pic that came up on the lcd was 3/4 white blob, took three more and all were the same, looks like I have the dreaded sensor failure. As soon as I get a few more dollars in my "fun fund" I'll see if I can find a nice S5 Pro, then I'll feel comfortable about posting here. I wish to thank all of you for your wonderful pictures week after week after week!

Clyde

Sorry about that, been so long since I posted, I forgot how!

Great Pano...... from Canyonlands in Utah I presume? When I was there a nearby fire put a bit of haze in the air and the images were not that great.

However, on the way eastward from Zion this scene impressed me so much I couldn't resist another pano:

Cheers,

Bob

While some of you guys might still be shivering in the north, we still have summer in the southern hemisphere - but not for long !

Here are some recent shots with my S5:

Hi all,

Hope everyone is doing okay. Long time no see. :)

Anyhow, I found out about this article on Dpreview, and thought it was interesting, as it has to do with greater dynamic range in a sensor. That is THE thing that got me into digital, Fujifilm's dynamic range. So, hopefully, when sensor like this "Binary Pixel" technology finally reaches DSLRs, I'll be SO happy!

Take care,
Huy

Here's the link if you haven't seen it already:

Yip, the DR of the S5Pro is what made me buy it.

It took quite a long time before some DSLR's (D800/D600) finally got to get close to it, most have not yet.

It makes one wonder why more manufacturers don't follow Fuji in this respect. Maybe this binary version might start a trend - let's hope !

Hi Guys, nice to see you are still hanging out on Wednesdays. I came for the train shots... and of course Alan is out galavanting once again... ha. Alan, is that my old S5 you're dragging around?

Nice shots you guys, love those Panos!

I was reading reviews for the Nikon 24-120/4 (B&H has them on sale) and thought I'd bounce over. Here's a shot I did yesterday with my X100 in a plastic camera sock...

Hope all you guys are well. Would love to hear any first hand experience using that 24-120, especially for event work. Sale ends tomorrow... so I gotta decide quick. BTW, I own the 24-70... just looking for a little more reach and a little less weight.

Spectacular purple thistle flower!

As a new X-E1 owner I am just beginning to discover the great work to be seen on the S thread, so please keep it going!

Thanks Mark,

That is a good looking review. I'll be spending some time reading it...

I think I might go for this lens expressly for event work. Center appears to be sharp, oddly reviews claim it's fantastic wide open - which is where I will be. The 120 aspect will give me more reach as well.

Thanks again.

Dennis,

Yes, your S5 is going strong though it is stuck in Continuous High mode which is OK by me.

I have had the nikkir 24-120 f4 VR for over a year. It became the carry around lens for both the S5 and now the D800E. The lens correction software in ACR does a really nice job throughout the range of the lens. It balances well on both bodies. I can't directly compare this to the 24-70 but I think you will find both the extra reach and VR useful for events.

Excellent Alan, Thank you. That's what I was hoping to hear. I'm sure if you felt there was issue with the focus, sharpness or construction you would have mentioned it. I think it's a go.

Glad to hear the S5 is still working for you. I don't think I ever took it off High Speed Mode... it probably just got settled in there...ha. I think it might be about time to find a new home for the other body and 17-55. I just haven't used them for far too long and it's a shame for them to just lay around. Hopefully I'll still be able to pop in here even if I don't own an S body anymore. I kinda like what's shaping up with these new bodies though. Might have to trade my X100 in for a newer interchangeable lens model. Not quite sure which one yet.

Really nice to hear from you Alan and see these other familiar names still hanging around.

I'll keep checking in as well.

Safe travels my friend.
