Oh relax. The man is sharing some valuable info not selling crap. I think its fair to grant him some hits on his blog for his efforts.

It is an interesting subject for many, but I think it would be better to report on differences in autofocus performance that is much wider than this. A 70-300 f/4-5.6 zoom lens? The auto focus system works differently for different lenses and of these if f/4 or f/2.8 lenses and of course also different light levels. Further it would be necessary to try out the different AF modes to make a conclusion.

Please note that I'm not indicating if I believe the conclusions on this single test. I have no idea if they are correct or not. But I think you also know how the reaction will be on such findings on high profile cameras like this... so therefore it would be wise with a bit more solid tests.

Keep up the good shooting, I really like your images, no matter how you get them ;)

the auto-focus on your own Nikon D4 does not work at the level of accuracy that you want.

Have you tried to test other Nikon D4s to see if they had the same problems that what you experienced with your own D4 concerning the auto-focus?

It might cost you much less to test other Nikon D4s to see if you still have the auto-focus problems that you have with your own Nikon D4 than buy cameras and lenses from another maker!!

Hi, I discovered the same thing as you with my 1DX compared to my D800E. You may need to read this link where you can download some settings that Canon Australia gave to a pro photographer, who is the author of the post. I tried it on my 1DX and it helps a lot for low light focusing.

No, that's what these forums are for: to discuss here not be re-directed to other websites.

How do you upload the file to the camera? As I assume the file is not to replace the ver 1.1.1 firmware file on the 1Dx, how do you apply the file to the camera?

It is a common and accepted practice in forums for people to share links to blogs, other forums, and websites as long as it contains valuable info about the topic on hand (in this case a comparison of pro cameras). However, you are free to spout your opinion (as much as I'm free to counter your arguments) and if you wish, feel free to report the OP's post to the proper admins but whether or not this post is considered appropriate is NOT your call but the call of the administrators and perhaps the general consensus of the members of this forum.

There shouldn't be any problem with the OP referencing his blog as that is where he will publish his "official" observations. No different than DPR providing a link to a YouTube video or someone referencing some review elsewhere. The OP wishes to include the DPR 1D forum readers alongside D4 forum users to gain additional support while he trials the 1DX alongside his D4. At this point, the OP appears quite genuine with no obvious attempts at self-promotion but rather what appears to be a very honest effort to utilize these tools in extreme conditions. Why someone has to get high and mighty is beyond me.

You have to go to Set Up4 and load the cam settings file on a memory card. It not the same as changing the Fimware.

Glad that I could help.

I found out that it make my 1DX better but not as good as my D800E in very low light. I wanted to sell my D800E but I think that I will wait for the successor to the D4. The 1DX when the light is not very, very low and my D800E with my F1.4 primes for thoses situations.

Is your 1DX still hunting from near to infinity, again and again? Mine does not do it after the upload of the settings. When it cannot focus, it just stay still.

Too bad that it did nothing for you... We just have to wait and hope for Canon to do something about it.

Great shots. I really enjoyed your galleries.

Also, nice to hear your opinions. What I like about your perspective is that you have shot with both systems and you are working with real world situations. I found your blog objective and informative.

Thanks.
