Nikon Pro DX SLR Talk

Maybe DPR know something we don't and there is going to to be a D300 upgrade.
Hopefully... Most of us may undermine the use of DX format in professional fields, however D300S (besides the 7D) was a very fine alternative for applications requiring hi frame rates (up to 8fps), fine image quality, SDK (yes, very important!) and these all with a fraction of the similarly featured FF cameras ($1500-1700). Not only for bird, wildlife or sports photography but also for industrial applications like speed enforcement (7-8fps), such DX cameras are still the preferred ones over their FF brethren. I personally am looking forward to have a D400 with the sensor on the Nex-7 for example. BTW, I heard a number of D300S used since years exceeding 500K actuations; they really are robust cameras.

Seems like the D400 will be ready for the Spring 2013 PMA event.

All factors considered, it's a smart move by Nikon to continue this fine DX line of quality products.

Curiously, the D1 and D2 series are in the pro FX forum. Pretty sure they were DX and pro in their day.
It was probably just not practical to dis entangle the D1 and D2 threads from the old forum.
Indeed. They just changed some of the forum titles. They didn't merge any of the 'ghost town' forums that people don't use often, nor did they move any threads around.

Like, do we really need two Kodak forums (the company is bankrupt)? What about a "Konica Minolta Forum"? That company hasn't existed for years, can't we just merge it with the Sony forum already? Do we really need SIX different Nikon forums? FIVE different Canon forums?

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Yes. It appears the D400 leaking has begun....

Yeah, if the D400 never comes, this will be the worst named forum ever.
Might indicate DPR has faith there will be a D400.
If some one right now bets a million bucks that the D400(D300 replacement) won't come out, and i bet that it will, I'd win!! :)

This forum will be a place where people can ask questions about the older pro bodies, especially those photographers that are thinking about buying the older brick style pro bodies (D1, D1x, D2, D2h, D2hs, D2x, D2xs), or photographers who might be having issues with their older gear, etc.

It has a nice ring to it, all the camera`s here we need no DX/FX cams, al we need to do is wait for D400 day !! :)

I like it - just need D400 to come along although my D300s and D800 are good enough.

I find it odd that the D300 and D700 are not in the same forum. I shoot both and that they are almost identical other than one is DX and the other FX.

Pro Body D1-D4
I'm still missing the D1/2/3 D100/200/300 FX/DX harmony and philosophy ... missed opportunity: Pro (FX/DX), Amateur (FX/DX), Nikon1, Coolpixes and Nikkor ... any FX is DX too
Semi Pro D100-D300 & D700/D800

Enthusiast D70-D90, D7000 and D600

Entry Level, D40 - D5100.

I also find the naming of the D600 strange. I think it should be D8000 as it is an FX version of the D7000. Just saying, LOL.
LOL but agreed, bingo, the D8000 is its name.
Never mind.

Official Nikon NPS Equipment Classification List

D300, D700, D4, D3, D800, D600 etc are pro gear, not semi pro or enthusiast...

D7000 is a secondary (backup) pro (semi pro) camera...
What about the ... Nikon Europe classification?

Does not matter what you shoot with Dex, you are a pro.

Hope the weather is not to bad on you all up there.

Where I am few grey sky and high wind days. Nothing devestating.

I will say at 60 something degrees from 90"s is a shock to the old bod..

Cheers
