Slow SDM is it normal?

With you 100%, But the symptoms are what they are.

SDM runs slower on the kx then the k5 (compared the screw) , Now Pentax may had deliberatly crippled the kx performance but I ver much doubt that so the lack lustre performance must be due to somthing that different between the two.?

Add to that that when the k5 is in AA running configuration Pentax chose to use 6 AA cells , Newer base models have li-ion as there primary supply.

You can be left with only 1 logical conclusion about the fitness of 4 AA (4.8v) for use.

I am willing to entertain the possibility they have different SDM control circuitry.

It would be interesting to check the K30 with 4AA's. One would assume if there was any difference in design, the K30 would have a faster one.

Also interesting that the K30 can operate on two voltages? Both the 4.8v AA and the 7.4v Lithium.

Any K30 owners that have tried both with a SDM lens?
