Please answer in the title of your reply:

1) Around the neck

2) Around the shoulder

3) strap? what strap?

Choose one only -- elaborate in the text reply if you choose.

And use (nt) if you aren't adding anything other than your reply.

Why am I doing this? Just curious!

Well, I do have an Optech strap which I like, but I generally hook the little 'hookies' together to make a very short strap to keep it out of my way. I generally carry it by the grip/wrist strap. IF--I use the strap I put it over my shoulder.

So I can get a good grip on it with my left hand while not shooting.

Sometimes it's just around the neck. That bounces too much when I walk (belly too big!)

I do exactly the same. Use an Optech strap. Of course, most of my photography is landscape and I'm hiking--I don't want to carry a camera by the wrist strap all day.

Lots of strap hanging around. Gets in the way setup like that.

I followed the manual for both neck/wrist together, and its a pain....probably just go back to neck-strap only..

I usually have the camera hanging around my neck, unless I'm walking a great distance with it. and then I'll swing it around on my shoulder, or around the neck and under one arm. As much as I hate camera straps (they're always getting in the way), they're great when I'm changing lenses, when I can pay attention to what I'm doing and let the camera hang off my neck while I put one lens down and pick up another.

I recently bought a Lowepro strap, thinking it'd be great to be able to take the thing off quickly whenever needed. Unfortunately, the quick-releases get in the way more than the regular Canon strap (especially when shooting in vertical with the battery grip on), so I have put the original Canon strap back on.

The search goes on for a better camera strap... unfortunately, I cannot get Optech straps locally, as no one imports them to Australia, so I cannot try one out in the shop (which is what I should have done with the Lowepro strap in the first place! :-)). I have heard a lot of good things about them, but am reluctant to order one online, as I'm afraid that the quick-releases will get in the way too much... it's just too much to have TWO unused pro camera straps doing nothing around the house! ;-)

If I'm on an outing, I keep the camera in the toploader case that is strapped over the right shoulder and under the left arm. The neck strap is loose around the neck at the same time.

I use the neck strap more as a security strap in case the camera slips out of my hands while I'm taking pictures.

HP Photosmart (April '02) Canon Powershot G2 (July '02). Nikon N80 (Dec '02) 28-80mm G, 75-300mm G, Canon 10D arriving in April. Already have 28-138 IS SUM, 75-300mm IS USM, sigma 18mm 3.5. Will replace Nikon N80 with Canon Elan in April.

Around my neck, but after a 12 hour day touring the south rim of the Grand Canyon I felt like I had a Grand Piano hanging around my neck. I am looking for a strap which will spread the weight over a greater area than the 1-1/2" wide Canon strap. Quick release would be great too!
