Im thinking of buying a canon 75-300 IS. I know the image stabilization works well for low light. But does it help with the long shots? I will be using it with a D60. Is there a better lens in the same price range for 75-300 range.

In the UK at least, unless you could used 70-200L F4s and old 80-200L F2.8s but neither have IS or the range though the 80-200L is probably the sharpest zoom Canon ever made ..

the only lens that beats the 75-300IS for EVERYTHING (that includes IS, Range etc) is the 100-400L and THAT is also a slow lens aperture wise and is a pump zoom if that bothers you ..

Adam the 100-400L is $1200 the 75-300 is about $400. what im realy looking for IS help when hand holding long shots? I dont know about ware you come from but used L glass is impossible to find around my neck of the woods.

Take a look at KEH.com. You can get a bargain occasionally. That's where I got two older lenses at decent prices: 100mm macro, not USM, and 80-200L2.8.

where used 70-200L F4s are about as are used 100-400s occasionally , 80-200s are rarer and the ultra wide stuff almost impossible to get at a sensible price.

Old Bob I couldn't justify the L for my talent at this time but I'm not as steady as I once was so I went for the 75-300IS mostly due to AdamT's,as usual, good advice. This lens works great for me.I have handheld at 300=448 on a D60 I think,on eagles, elk, marmots etc and no camera shake showing on image down to 1/60sec...It is sharper with better color and contrast than my 28-135..If money was no object I would have the 70-200LIS with my tc1.4..Bob

I got one just about new that I will let go. Email me. [email protected]

I have the 75-300IS too. It's a very nice lens. I wish I could afford the 70-200L 2.8 IS.
