I was surprised that I got this li'l one since the 10D has this
horrid focusing problem. It was hopping along in the grass and the
leaves so I figured the AF would have a hard time with it but...

it obviously didn't.
..as a matter of fact, it looks back-focused to me.

Is that a submarine or a Koi moving in to gobble up a duck in the other one?
