...but it's a Kirk-brand plate for a Canon 100-400 that I mount
using the single hole, front to back and protruding forward, so the
camera can slide to the rear. With the plate's front even with the
QR clamp's front, the nodal points of my 28mm and 50mm lenses are
aligned with the ballhead's pivot, and with the plate pulled about
1 centimeter (0.4") to the rear, the 85mm's nodal point is aligned.
I haven't aligned my new Canon 135/2's nodal point; I THINK I may
need a longer plate for that or I simply may put up with the slight
foreground blur that may result from the assembly being slightly
too far forward.
The plate clamps tightly enough that it doesn't rotate on the 1Ds's
body, but I suppose a custom plate would be better. I shudder to
think of what that would cost!
