Hi,

I have just taken a load of shots from waterloo bridge of London skyline and to my disappointment the shots didn't turn out as well as I would have liked. The pictures come out a little blurry which really causes a little streaking on sources of light in the picture. I have tried holding the camera as steady as I can with little or no movement yet the shots still aren't coming out right. I have also used night shot and auto mode but to no avail. Any advice or setting recommendations would be appreciated.

Hi, the best thing I can suggest would be to use a tripod or set the camera's timer to wait for 2 seconds after you press the shutter buttin to take the photo.

When I do night shots exposure is in the seconds so use of a tripod is essential for me. Try setting camera on railing of bridge and use timed shutter to have picture taken witout you pushing shutter.

Use manual mode to set exposure and aperuture. Trial and error probably needed to get right exposure.

It is darn near impossible to hold the camera still enough for a night shot unless you use a tripod or brace it against something solid. Even the slightest movement is going to cause blurring/streaking.

Thanks for the replies peeps - I think I will invest in a mini tripod.

Can someone recommend a table top one (that I can also use against the chest). I found one on the web which looks quite good.

Hi, I have this little number. It folds flat and fits in your pocket

Remember -If you increase the ISO number, it increases the shutter speed. Did you try ISO 200 and Iso 400?

With tripod or bracing yourself for slow shutter shot, it is definitely helpful to use the 2 sec delay setting on your camera ( Shutter opens/shuts 2 secs AFTER you depress the shutter button)

I just bought this one. It works great on the table. It also has a velcro strap that allows you to fix it to a branch or some other object outdoors.

I have a old and very sturdy full size tripod, an REI mini tripod and a hackeysack (beanbag). I find that I most often use the bean bag, second the full size tripod and lastly by a large margin the mini-tripod.

The reasons is that the beanbag does just about everthing the minitripod does, but it can sit on more surfaces, is smaller and easier to set up. If I need the real stability and control (panning, layered shots) of a tripod I use the full size one. The mini tripod is too in between these two to be useful.

You can buy one from Bestbuy for $ 10.
