Let's see you and your lenses!

--So what is it like to actually photograph Pluto?...(500/4 IS...Wow)
Hehe, I actually get asked that with the long lenses.
So the big question is...which one is your favorite? (Sexy,
oh-my-God-look-at-the-size-of-that-thing" factor excluded of course)
That's a tough one. The 500/4 IS is the one that shows the most improvement over my other alternatives for getting that focal length.
Which one do you use the most?
Hmmmm. Probably the 135/2 and 85/1.2
Which one did you buy first?
I believe I got the 50/1.4 and 85/1.2 at the same time. If not, then I got the 85/1.2 first.

After fighting an unknown rash on my arms for over twenty years I have just about given up. I have tried every cream and ointment known to man. I live in Florida so long sleeves is not an option most of the time. What is really nice is that when I get hot it really looks bad. Of course you never get hot working as a firefighter in Florida. Not contagious, I just look like a leopard with red spots. Thank God it is not on my face. It truelly is the practice of medicine. They have been practicing on me and my wallet for a long time on this one.

Just posted this above, but I'll repost (and get the city right
this time, too).

Actually, I live in Houston.

But, I have rosacea, so the sun and I don't get along too well.
Though it's a lot more tolerable now that I quite taking the
doxycycline for the rosacea. That made my photo-sensitivity MUCH
worse.

I know all about what you mean by "practicing" medicine.

When I was going to the doctors, MY main complaint was recurring GI problems. My WIFE's main complaint was the rosacea -- lol.

The doctors got pretty confused by all this, I think. I'm surprised it took so long for somebody to diagnose the rosacea. If that's the only problem I'd had, that diagnosis would've come very early, I'm sure.

As it turns out, it appears that rosacea and the GI problems were related. As soon as I started taking the antibiotics for the rosacea, my GI problems went away. If I got off the antibiotics, the problems came back.

Unfortunately, I didn't like the antibiotics because they really worsened photo-sensitivity. I took them for at least 6 years, I'd guess.

Finally, started doing some digging around and discovered that rosacea had a possible link to h. pylori . . . . and that h. pylori also had a possible link to duodenal ulcers.

Putting two and two together, I convinced my doctor to test me for h. pylori. It came back negative, but I convince her to go ahead and give me the treatment for h. pylori anyway.

Well what do you know? The rosacea and GI problems went away after a 2 to 3 week treatment. For several years. Now the've come back (to a much lesser degree). Unfortunately, my doctor is now elsewhere, so I need to find another doctor that I can convince to give me another treatment.

I had to create this to satisfy a Mr. "just in case" in another
thread (though he suddenly disappeared after I called his bluff).
David,

This is too funny! You are one of the most level headed folks on this forum, Mr. "Case" must have gotten under your skin? Your really did not need to post this.

Really, you did not need to post this...

But hey, thanks for posting anyway,

Dave

Looks like Phil's been doing a little cleaning up.

For example, try to find this thread

or the ones that precedeeded/followed it.

LOL, I noticed he shut up after you posted that shot last night.

That thread got funny as hell except that a new visitor to this
site might believe some of that guys nonsense!!

Try to find that MESSAGE, or the one to which I was responding, or the ones that followed it.

The message is still in the database, obviously, but it doesn't show up in the normal view of the thread anymore.

That's me, and all my primes. Sorry, he didn't want to see my
zooms. Besides, I had to have ONE lens to take the picture with.
;)

Please post only Canon lenses (no Sigma), as we truly want to keep
this Canon-related, right? ;) (just kidding)

And, no, I don't always have my Wilkinsons T-shirt and ballcap on.
I did that just to prove that it was really me. Sometimes I wear
my David Ball shirt. ;)

Sorry for the lousy picture, but it was at high ISO and with the
dreaded 16-35/2.8 zoom. I would've used a prime, but they were all
being photographed at the time. ;)

So, come on! Pics of you with with your lenses!

Seattle wouldn't be good, either, unfortunately. In about 1990, I
developed a literal allergy to cold. It doesn't take much, either.
65 F with enough breeze or some drizzle will do it. My hands will
break out in hives. You'd swear I'd been attacked by a swarm of
mosquitoes.

Even exercising in an air-conditioned room will get that reaction.
For example, if I ride an exercise bicycle long enough, the sweat
evaporating off my chest will cool it enough that it will break out
in hives.

If it gets cold enough, just standing outside (in jeans) will
result in my thighs and legs breaking out, too.

I need a nice non-humid, temperate, cloudy place to live.
David,

What is rosacea? About 15 years ago, I dated a girl who could not spend 20 minutes in the sun..
She had legs like you! (but shaped much better :) lol

She was as white as my bed sheets... Bright red hair to boot... More than 1/2 hour in the sun and she would be on the way to the hospital..

But she never said the word rosacea..

So why do you live in Houston.. .. I was in San Antonio (gateway to the AF) for a while and boy was it HOT.. Always sunny.

Ever think of San Fransisco ? (sp?) I was there too and it was always about 70 degrees and never any sun... Sometimes, you would actually be standing in the middle of a cloud and not be able to see a 1/4 mile.

What is the big lens to the left? Is it on top of a box like the others?

That may have had nothing to do with rosacea at all.

Rosacea is sometimes called "adult acne", because some manifestations of it involve pimples, etc. Another possible manifestation is called rhynophyma (think W. C. Fields and his bulbous nose). Fortunately I don't have that, either.

I basically have redness of the skin that gets exposed to sun, and extreme "flushing" of the skin if I get hot. I have a lot of telangectasia (I know I spelled that one wrong), which are basically very fine capillaries that are so inflamed you can see them. Laser surgery may help with that, I haven't really looked into it too much.

More info can be found at rosacea.org, I think.

Sounds like she was just very fair-skinned and hyper-sensitive to the sun. Many redheads are like that.
So why do you live in Houston.. ..
It's the center of the oil business.

The big lens is the 500/4 IS. The one next to it is the 200/1.8

Both have their lens hoods on, and they're standing on top of their respective cases. There's no cardboard box under the cases, though.
