I generally shoot in RAW but Aperture is not yet supporting the RX100 or is Adobe DNG converter...so if someone, or more can talk to me about how you view the jpegs vs RAW images created with this camera it would be most helpful.

Thanks much

How do you view... as in "to view RAW" image, or how does one see RAW output compared to its JPEG counterpart when shooting in RAW+JPEG mode?

Just

Ike in other programs I would suspect. The jpeg always looks good until you start to process the Rae, so I may not understand you question. I often shoot in RAW only as I have considered my after processed RAW better than the jpegs I have seen side by side.

I shoot RAW+JPEG, but JPEG is only for less critical images (or generally deleted). RAW is what I normally keep. Keeping JPEG makes it easier to get a thumbnail on Windows Explorer, for example.

The reason I asked is I would usually not consider a camera until aperture is updated for raw as like you I just prefer it and it is no more work than processing a jpeg. I can use the Sony software I guess to see but I prefer aperture. I can a,so use Rawtherapee but Aperture is my program of choice, I just did not like Lightroom as much. But if the jpegs on the rx100 are really good then I would think the raw would be better. A friend sent me some jpegs and I impressed with them, but I could not compare. Thanks.. I am getting ready to change from Ricoh after many years.

The Release Candidate DNG 7.2 converter will convert the RX100 files to DNG. I don't know if Aperture can open that or not.

I also shoot and process in RAW for the same reasons. I use Aperture also and am waiting for them to process the RX100 RAW images before I buy the RX100. I have sent Apple an email asking them to develop RAW processing for the RX100 and I urge you to do the same.

Do you have an email for their camera department, but I will look. From what I have been told these do not help but it is worth a try, they are very slow generally, but if sony makes the information available to them they should act on it and they have a good number of sony cameras already for RAW and if you look at FUJI you can see that gap. thanks

Amigo,

The RX100 IS on the list. I don't know what's going on, but I have successfully converted RX100 into DNGs using it (Windows platform, but I don't think that makes a difference). Are you sure you are using it correctly? You select the entire folder of files to convert. Many people have trouble trying to convert one file at a time.

Make sure you are really invoking 7.2. Also, make sure there are only raw files in the folder you select.

I tried using Sony's IDC for RAW conversion. ACR is much better. Here are some examples, http://nns555.zenfolio.com/sony_rx100_sample_photos . #13 processed with IDC, #17 processed with ACR. Highlight recovery is much better with ACR. Same with #12 and #20. The rest of the photos are a mix of jpegs and from RAW, post processed with CS 6.

I do not find a huge difference in sharpness between jpegs and RAW.
