Santa Barbara (CA) Peace March

You mean everything Bush did fail so the only option to prove
himself is war, right ?
Name one thing he has failed at!

I don't know what is your expectation of a president but to me should be someone to make his people live better and happier. So far, I can't see any of those signs, except bombing Afghanistan that did make most Americans feel good and he is working on repeating that.

You think we are going to bomb Afghanistan again. Why would we do that? That makes no sense!!

That is not what I see in those statistics like Consumer confidence or unemployment rate or may be gasoline price or may be the dismal Christmas season or may be the 401K statement. Two years have passed and counting and 2003 doesn't have sign to get better. But don't worry, 1 good year out of 4 is good enough, just make sure the timing is right.
You think we are going to bomb Afghanistan again. Why would we do
that? That makes no sense!!
Did I ? I was saying Bush is working on repeating to give the boost of feeling good to Americans, not bombing Afghanistan but Iraq. Bombing Afghanistan of course make no sense. In fact, I believe Bush finds the winning formula reflected in one of your other post talking about taking out the bad guys one at a time.

BTW, you have an impressive list of gears :-)

Is it true this thread started with the question- "which is better a Canon D60 or the Nikon D100"?

Hi Rick, I would like to answer your question- comment by telling you of what has happened in my very small town just inland of Santa Barbara. A local fellow who is 60 years old and has been in this country for several years went into the immigration office to register as a person who came from a Middle Eastern country as required by law. (Yes, its the NEW law now) He is from Iran. He went in with his lawyer and was taken into a separate room away from his lawyer and arrested. He was not allowed to talk to his lawyer or contact his family. He was immediately taken to a prison in Oakland (near San Francisco) So How would you feel about this if it was your child or spose and you could not contact them and they had NO access to legal council ?

There is something happening in the U.S that needs to be protested against. How many people are going to be killed in Irak? How many Nukes does the U.S. have? The U.S. constitution was founded on a recogition of the inevitable abuse of power of people who wield power. Would protesters against segregation laws in the 1960s or 50s be wasting their time as you seem to suggest?
Will
I'll just say, because I'm dying to be riddled with arrows, that I
have never understood the point behind "marches" like this.

And all I want is for someone to answer the question: what do you
want to have happen if it turns out Iraq DOES have nukes? Anything
at all?

All these are done for the good of Americans and the world, long term. What you descrbied is just collecteral damage. They are many of those unnamed heros in shaping the future perfect world and would be remembered by their offsprings for their sacrifice.

What you are really saying is not to take care of business by removing an evil dictator hell bent on killing people so our economy won't suffer. See that is what Bill Clinton did. He would take a poll to see what would make him more popular that day regardless of long term consequences that we suffer today.
You think we are going to bomb Afghanistan again. Why would we do

Thanks for the compliment. Now to pay for it all. I didn't have a signature for along time but I increasingly found myself looking at others as a reference so I added mine.

As far as I remember, it was Bush Sr. that decided to keep Saddam in place. The best timing was 91(to remove him). Let's get real here, whatever the US president do(be it Clinton or Bush), it is US interest coming on top of the list, all those moral high ground are just smoking guns.

That was the UN resolution. The rest is speculation.

The best timing was 91(to remove him).

You are absolutely right. It still angers me that we had 500,000 troops moving 60 mph unopposed to Bagdad and we didn't do it. The fact remains it was the UN resolution to remove him from Kuwait not from power. It did however cost him his re-election!

No moral high ground here. It is the nature of every govt. to be self serving. We elect people to respresent us and look out for our interests. So does every elected govt. and you fault that. Hows that for getting real.

And yes we should be praised for not sticking our heads in the sand and so should our troops and so should all the brave souls that have paid the ultimate price for freedom. Let me see if I have this right you don't think it is good thing to remove an evil dictator. Have your ever thought of how a dictator stays in power. How about an acid bath for anyone who opposes him. You should think about a signature with your equipment so I can return the compliment.

Wrong. Like most people, I want this a perfect world and all evils eliminated. And from a very selfish point of view, taking out Iraq quick and return the world to 'normal' and remove the uncertainty, plus a steady supply of oil which should do some good to US economy(as well as the rest of the world) is obvously good for me. However, as I said let's get real, the number one reason to remove Saddam is not what he did to his people so that line of reasoning of why Iraq should be bombed can be saved from me. That is all I wanted to say. Beside, I think Bush is doing a lousy job in convincing people in this process. US get almost unanimous support in 91 as well as after 911.

As for my gears, I only have a S30 + a Vivitar 283 + a cheapo Walmart tripod.
