Sorry, whoever is spreading this sort of rumor should be executed immediately.

The 7DII will with 100% certainty be an APS-C camera. Why? Because the 7D is an APS-C camera and it makes no sense whatsoever to change sensor format!

If there is a new full frame camera then it will get a new number designation, muddling up existing numbers is the most idiotic move any company could make!

Ohhhh can't wait to order it, will be nice !Canonwatch source :)
It already exists, it is called 1DX. cost about 5 times as 7D.

Why do people think canon will make another 1DX but charge 1/5 the price and call it something else?

And that probably means we are both wrong.

I wouldn't be shocked if the 7DII were APS-H.

I also expect it to have a translucent mirror, a really good EVF, and shoot at 12 fps. Sorry, Karl, I couldn't resist. :)

Given most likely customers are existing 7D owners who wishes to update their camera, and 7D's kit was a high end EF-S lens, this is extremely unlikely

If it's 40+MP (so I still have the reach advantage), with the 5D3's AF system (because that type of pixel density would really benefit from the new AF system) then I'm in!

But .. only if it still does 8fps. LOL!

And when you think about it like that - it seems fairly unlikely to me. ;-)

...agreed, but it wil need to be at least 47 Mpx in order not to loose
reach advantage 7d already enjoys over current FF bodies,

Agreed!

Canon's current biggest hole in their line-up is left by the discontinuance of the 1D Mk IV. While the 1D X is an awesome camera, it lacks the added reach of a crop sensor camera. And, other than the 7D Canon no longer has a PRO level crop sensor camera. This is where I see the 7D Mk II fitting. Most likely and APS-C version of the 1D Mk IV, just like the original 7D was pretty much an APS-C version of the 1D Mk III.

But, I'm still betting that the 70D is a polycarb 60D body with a full frame sensor.

Given that Canon already has the best selling full frame camera around $2000 (5D Mk II, body only, $2079 - Adorama), that could be wrong. But, a full frame 70D certainly would bring the X0D line back to its former glory. And the 70D is exactly where an ENTRY LEVEL full frame camera should be marketed.

I agree that this would be a problem, which is why I don't expect it. But I wouldn't be shocked because I think the 7D's niche is as a really good sports/action camera, rather than specifically as an APS-C camera. Going to an APS-H sensor would facilitate Canon's leadership in that niche without competing directly with the full frame bodies.

I'm not sure that Canon can keep what makes the 7D class leading for sports/action without going to a larger sensor. Obviously a brand new 7D with the existing 18mp sensor - shared with two Rebels and the 60D - is not going to be an option.

7D did, so why cant 7D2 do the same?

of course it can, just keep using better Af and better FPS than competition. the only camera that really competes with 7D is D300s and D7000, both have APS-C. their successor will also both be aps-c. there is no need for canon's offering in this class to go beyond APS-C.
Obviously a brand new 7D with the existing 18mp sensor - shared with two Rebels and the 60D - is not going to be an option.
why not? the same sensor has been used in 3 rebels now, it is already hitting MP limit for a x1.6 aps-c sensor before suffering from diminishing returns. Canon has bigger problems to fix than increase MP, namely catching up in DR and colour depth to competition. Many people prefer to to see another 18mp with updated circuitry and better IQ (like we have seen in 650D), rather than 24mp with same 11.5 stop DR and possibly slow down to 6 FPS.

The OP is referencing a rumor that was posted 2 months ago. It is not new news; most of us read this in June.

Move along, there is nothing to see here.

Rumor sites are just that...rumors. Don't believe anything until there's a Canon announcement.

I wondered why the ball kept getting bigger, then it hit me.

Would like to see APS-H size sensor in a 5d MKIII body, call it a 7d MK II . . . .
