Ain't she pretty?

Thanks for the soft focus version, Gary. What method did you use? You may already have it but I have an action I downloaded off the net for doing soft focus. Let me know if you want to give it a try. It utilizes Maximum, GB, and Motion Blur. Here is my attempt at soft focus.

Good one, George. It's nice to see the Kodak man back in the mix. :P Thanks for playing.

I really like this version. Interesting color change for the background. I'm always trying to separate the subject from the background but doing the opposite with this one seems to work nicely and helps soften the entire image. I especially like the lighting of the subject. Thanks for posting your version. :P

Nice one, Claude. Good job on the skin, eyes, lighting, and background change. Thanks for playing. :P

Very nice Black and White, Bob. It's never too late. I really like the facial lighting and glowing feel to it. I only wish you hadn't blurred it so much in the lower portions of the image. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work. Thanks for playing. :P

Thanks for the excellent smudge painting, Ray. She and her mom will love it. :P

Besides all of the 'soft filters' out there, I also check this one out to see if I like the effect.
  • convert a duplicate to B&W or, copy either the blue or green channel to a new layer over-top.
  • convert it to a smart layer, change the blend mode to Soft Light and apply Gaussian blur (20 pixel?) But because of the smart layer, you can adjust it to suit.
If you duplicate this layer, rasterize and invert it while still in soft light mode, you see that it lightens the darks and darkens the lights.

Thanks again for the post.

Some mistakes are just too much fun to make only once!

Nice retouch, Paul. Good job on the face and the contrast frames it nicely. Thanks for playing. :P
