What is the largest size print I can hope to achieve with the Canon D-60? Would this camera be a wise choice for the wedding photographer?

1 - What is the largest size print I can hope to achieve with the Canon
D-60?
The only limit is how big a piece of paper you can find, and how large an area you can get printed on it. Think about it. You can print a billboard, and you'll have to stand pretty far back to take it in.

Quality is pretty subjective, so only you ( or your clients! ) can answer that question. Download some images, print 'em out, and see what you think.

Personally, I think the 10x15 ( inch ) prints I'm getting look better than anything I've seen from 35 mm film. You need good lenses in either case.
2 - Would this camera be a wise choice for the wedding
photographer?
Yes, absolutely. As long as super-duper focus tracking and very low-light autofocus aren't the most important part of your job. Good lenses and a flash with an AF beam help a great deal.

I've been doing a few 12x18 prints using COSTCO printing service. I did a modest bit of noise reduction after digitally enlarging the photo to clean up JPEG artifacts (I typically do not shoot RAW - though as a wedding photographer you would). The prints turned out excellent.

One note: So far I've only enlarged scenery and landscape shots.

Outdoors 7 image Panoramic stitch of people talking as they meet the bride and groom prior to going into the evening meal.

Hi Steve,

I regularly print 20x30 inch prints at better than 35mm quality.... these prints can be viewed as close as you eyes will focus and they still look great.

I upsample using Photoshop's bi-cubic engine at 110% increments or I will use Genuine Fractals... it depends on the image.

I have also simply dragged the D60 file straight up to 20x30 without using either of the above techniques and the results were still very acceptable.

Also, I shoot JPG High Quality all the time, since I do not have the time to post process 500 images a day from the events that I do. Using JPG I have not encountered any problems with artifacts.

hi steve,

i've just received back a 24x36" print from jumbogiant.com. i was skeptical at first (they only want the file at 150ppi) so i decided to have them print a LARGE print (not their largest offered either)....well I was very impressed (subjective i know, but bear in mind i was skeptical to start)...

so to answer your question the camera is most definitely capable of very large prints...judging from the 24x36 probably larger still...

ps: i regularly print from my epson 1270 on super a3 (13x19) and i am a bit fanatical about issues such as noise, sharpening, etc....

hi steve,

I had 2 x 3 foot prints done by local graphics firm. They applied to black gator board, matte coating--I did 11 for a textile mill for use as 'art' on their showroom walls (all in duotones). They were blown away--and, frankly, I was also.

B/W lover, but color is seducing me

As far as image quality goes - I think you would be happy with the D60 - but I am not sure focus reliability and speed in interiors is good enough for a working professional.

I would have to agree with Glenn. I use the D60 exclusively for portraits and print 16x20's all the time and they are great. However the focusing is a problem with low light at a reception and the Canon glass doesn't have adequate distance markings to manually zone focus.

Which brings me to a question. Is there a second party lens that does have good markings in feet? On my Canon 28-70L you can't even see the green numbers in good light. There aren't enough of them to do any good anyway.
