i recently had 1d mk2 and a 550d, but unfortenately they vhere stolen, now i have opportunity to buy a 60d for a good price, will the 60d be a significant upgrade from 550d in camera feel ? and could it for a while until a can afford a new 1d keep up for some action photo? any advices?

I went from a 500D to the 60D and I much prefer the size and ergonomics of the 60D. Given the 60D and your 550D share sensors you won't see any difference there. I do find the 60D does a nice job of shooting sports. The AF system, while not up to 7D standards, performs well and most missed focuses I get are my fault. I use the 60D for softball, volleyball, and basketball, plus general shooting. The 5.3 fps, while not blazing fast, is noticeably better than the 3.7 fps I previously had. It has caught many nice game action sequences for me.

It is a great all-around camera (although due to the terrible gym lighting in my area and finally feeling confident my girl will play 3 more years of high school basketball I did buy a 5DIII last week).

thank u for imformative site, seems big difference from 550/600d to 60d, think i will try it out:)

yeah, thats what i was looking for, the feel of the camera..and it seems like u says, its much better then the xxxd series cameras, and also better autofocus , thank u for posting:)

I traded up from a 400D and have used a 450D extensively, and thought the newer Rebels felt even smaller and more plastic-y. I was really leaning towards the 7D, but honestly I liked the weight and the feel of the 60D as much or maybe more. It handles quite well and has a nice balance.

Besides the obvious AF advantage and speed, I think the metering is excellent (although it's the same on the T3i and 7D) and that alone has made a huge difference in my shots.

The downside for me is all the CF cards I have leftover - shouldn't be an issue for you!

hi, thanks for posting! yeah have lots of cf cards me too :( but sd cards are cheep i can see.., im planning to buy back a 1d series camera later, but need the video also now, so seems the 60 d is actually to more i look at it seems like a very balanced camera, do you have any suggestions for some relatively cheep good lenses too?

The Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 non-OS is a great bargain sports lens.
Also, the Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 OS has great image quality and fast focus.

thanks:) i was thinking about the 17-70 2.8-4.0 os, a little bit more reach, but maybe the 17-50 2.8 is a better , safer buy, and 2.8 all the way:) the 70-200 seems very good buy too! i was thinking a little bit of tamron 70-300 vc also, for the extra reach, but the f numbers sucks there..

exactly, better 63 dual zone metering is where I noticed a big improvement over older bodies

I would second TTMartin's suggestion for those two Sigmas. I have the 17-50 and it's amazing. The 70-200 has been on the short list for my next lens. So is the 50-150, but it's only for crop bodies (but so's the 17-50!). The 50-150 might have better optics too.

That Tamron is tempting for the current price (with MIR) of $350. For that price it's almost a toy, and could be a good knock around. Yeah, the variable aperture is not all that great, but the image quality is pretty good if you use it within its limits, and the VC is supposed to work quite well.

One HUGE and potentially fatal problem exists with the Tamron 70-300 VC however! Apparently, if you comment about how much you like the lens on a thread, the lens will jump out of your hand or off of a desk and commit suicide. No lie! Just ask. ;)

Anyway, look at the third party lens forum for a bunch of recent threads on all these lenses!

Here are 17-50 samples - a shot of a plum tree on a windy day. 2 100% crops @ 1:1, one from the top left corner, and the other is where the focus point was, right of center. I can't say enough good things about this lens. These are directly from file - no PP at all.

This is the top left branch - not even necessarily in the focus plane @ f2.8

:) wow, thanks for posting, seems the sigmas are really sharp!

thanks, nice!

Seems new rebel is up to task to! could it be a contender to 60d?
