I'm a new to digital photo. Can someone explain briefly about ISO settings and resolution settings. What's best place to set until I get more familiar. I have ISO set at 200 and resolution set M1 1600 X 1200 and compression set at Fine?

To get the best quality, set the resolution to Large Superfine - large = 4Mp and Superfine = the least amount of JPG compression so less artifacts, keep the ISO at 50 whenever possible as higher ISOs produce more noise (looks like film grain) - higher ISOs are useful when under difficult lighting conditions to gain more CCD sensitivity and therefore allow a higher shutter speed

You can set ISO to Auto. On the S30 and S40, this lets the camera select between 50 and 100. S45 is probably the same.

Large Superfine will get best quality, but if you want to save some space go to Fine compression, not down in size. I took a few pix in Fine and Superfine early on, and could not tell the difference. YMMV.
