I'm ordering a Nex 7 and was considering the 24mm Zeiss. (or perhaps Signa 30mm)

But I have a couple of Canon primes - 35mm 2 and 50mm 1.8 - and wondered how the quality was in comparison (obviously with adapter).

I just bought mine after 3 months of unsuccessful efforts to find one :-)

However it costs more than EF 50 f1.8, Sigma 30 or 19 E-mount, and probably EF 35 f2 too.

It is exciting option for owners or many EF glasses, otherwise I would rather suggest FD alternatives.
The best adapter for Eos lens for Nex is the Metabones
http://www.metabones.com/product/sony-nex/ef-e-bm1-detail

Is pricey, but worth it.

all with the Conurus adapter:
  • aperture and IS work either as on Canon (IS starting on 1/2-press, aperture closing only upon shutter release); or IS working all the time, aperture closed to a preset value during focusing as well = like on NEX'es (it is configurable if a bit tricky, and sometimes in a bit of a conflict with other functions, like FP or MF-assist);
  • IQ, even with "lesser" non-L lenses, is astounding, provided that... a really CRITICAL FOCUSING was attained = not a good news for shooting dynamic situations when prefocusing is not an option;
  • despite high ISOs theoretically available, when eiter there is no enough light, or lens is not bright (or preset to a small iris = Sony style of shooting) one can forget about aspiring for a critical focus other than by a random chance :(,
all said the results with the 10-22 are simply breathtaking = better than on
native C. bodies - as it turns out the focus ring can perform miracles (even
if DOF is huge, the critical focusing is crucial),

there will be some "buts" of unknown yet nature, & not obvious
through the use with a "non-electronic" adapter) :D

You bet it will jump there! There are so many nice lenses waiting on my shelf, beside TS-E's, I am also curious on MP-E65 i.e., and still many of legacy 50ties waiting for my blog reviews.

The only problem is, that I am a bit "dead man walking" till the end of June, due to ruthless clients who doesn't respect my hobby at all :-( Guess what, I am still in the work and it is 10min to midnight here , Friday evening...

I'm using Canon EF 35 F2, very lightweight focus rings trash but easy to get used to.
Nice bokah and pretty affordable will post pics later

Can you show us some examples with the 10-22? I have this lens, but not the adapter - yet.

with the spring being so late and hesitant this year my mpe65 is
still idling, but there is one big problem: how to fire the dual head
24ex macro flash from N7 in anything more smart than just a dumb
manual mode, and I had no time to really look into this - might be
unsolvable, though :(

and besides there are so very many other lenses waiting to be tested
in a field :D,

good luck,
jpr2

PS mind if I ask where did you get your adapter??

jpr2, I don't think there is any way to use TTL with 24ex or any Canon flash. Maybe guys from Conurus comes with something...

I bought my adapter from eBay, http://www.ebay.com/itm/221006101452?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
from Metabones eBay seller (looks like company official seller).

I posted that link here on this forum, when he still had 3 pieces, but they were all gone within a hour.
I saved the search with notification on eBay , so that helped.

OK, but this is just a quick illustration, no tripod used so the vantage
point might have drifted a bit; whole frames resized to 4000px on the
long axis to fit into DPR's limits;

some interesting combos start to emerge:

with caveats, of course - would this be your dream macro flash
& control idea for N& + mpe65?

Couldn't this one be used straight on?
http://sp.sony-europe.com/media/9/4106
this I don't know - it would be great if we (I mean the forum, not
just the two of us) could compare merits & demerits of each, not
only on paper, but also through hands-on experience of real users;
I envy the intense discussions on all aspects we got on Weekly Macro
thread at Canon Lenses forum :), but it doesn't look like anything
of the same kind and spirit is ready to materialize here yet!!

Hi jpr2

I've only had my Nex 7 a couple of weeks, so please excuse me being a bit thick!

I've used my EFS 10-22 with a standard adapter with good results, but I've no idea what the f-stop was, I think it defaults to maximum aperture.

If I eventually get the Conurus adapter, are you saying I can definitely dial in which aperture I wish to use?

Thanks

Tim

Yes. The Metabones/Conurus adapter allows the NEX to set aperture on EF lenses just like it does on E-mount lenses. It also enables IS, for lenses so equipped, and I think it enabled EXIF data from the lens as well. No AF, though.

Nex-7 with kit lenses, Contax G 35, and a number of legacy lenses (mostly Canon FD)

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I'll now have to get on the end of the waiting list for the adapter. I've got a clutch of Canon lenses to try before spending my money on E-mount lenses, though the Sigma 30 and Zeiss 24 are very appealing to me.
